NEED ADVICE: my Xbox Broke, 2 Red Rings of Death (?)

I actually bought an XBox black elite in like 2009...would my warranty still be good? They dont list a number on the website for me to call Microsoft and explain. I thought the Elite's had better hardware to prevent this?

Should I call? Anyone know the number?

Some Elite's are not any different CPU wise. Especially early elites. I had two elites, one overheated. The 360 has a one year anything warranty and a 3 year 'ring warranty' so you should be good as long as you have never opened your Xbox.

A simple way to see what CPU you have is to check the watt usage found on the 'block' on the power cord.

When you buy a 360 you will have to look at the date of manufacturing through the little hole in the XBox 360 Box. Make sure you know the year the chip you want started to be produced. A lot of companies believe it or not have old inventory and you can get fuged even buying a 'new one' from the store.

Craigslist. People are still selling theirs to get the newer 360. Since yours is out of warranty, they will fix it, then later down the road something else will go wrong...then you will spend more money. My second one had the Falcon chip didn't red ring like my first 360, but the DVD drive broke. There's many different problems the older 360's have

So get a used one for like $100 bucks or whatever....maybe even one that is in warranty.

After Gears 2 came out, I gave up on Xbox...had a PS3 and Sony delivered many quality exclusives. Thankfully I bought most multiplats on PS3..

Mine actually bit the dust today after 4 years (E74 graphics error)... no dice on the towel trick. Given the age of my machine and my game library that I still play, wife and I just picked up a new one w/ Kinect. There are definitely a lot of units available on Craigslist right now, but I'd still try to fix it myself via a kit before ponying up and buying a used one.
