"In 1998, Peyton Manning was as safe and pro-ready a quarterback prospect as they come. In 2011, Cam Newton was seen as a spectacular athlete, but a risk because he was raw at the position.

Both started in Week 1 as rookies, Newton with a truncated offseason. Their respective numbers through six weeks …

MANNING (1998): 113-210 (53.8 percent), 1,346 yards, 6 TD, 14 INT

NEWTON (2011): 134-229 (58.5 percent), 1,847 yards, 7 TD, 9 INT

So Newton threw more, for a higher completion percentage, more yards, more touchdowns and fewer interceptions than Manning. Both players' teams were 1-5 at that juncture."

Somebody compare Cam through six weeks vs Manning last year through 6 weeks.

Please

Yeah, cause that would prove that a seasoned, MVP, Super Bowl winning QB is better than a rookie. Totally sound argument. You nailed it, bro.

But why not.

Manning through 6 games last season:

Comp %: 67.75

Yards: 1,916

TD/INT ratio: 13-2

So, really, Newton isn't THAT far behind Manning in TODAY'S NFL. Obviously, the TD/INT ratio is way off, but that is to be expected. In terms of yardage and completion %, Cam looks like he could get to a Peyton-type of level sooner rather than later.

ffs,

Takes out the old rules vs new rules debate, bro.

Anyway, they both passed for about 1800 yards, Manning 2010, Cam 2011. See Bro, you totally missed my meaning.

Anyway, Manning has a huge advantage in the TD/INT ratio but you'd have to expect that.

However, Cam has run for 6 rushing TDs, something Peyton could never do.

All considered, Cam is doing a hellova job.

Bro.

Oh, well then we agree. lol I misinterpreted what you said. It's late for me. I wrote an 8 page paper. I'm delirious. Forgive me.

Also, look at it this way, in regards to Peyton last year through 6 vs Cam this year through 6. Since we have to account for Cam's running ability and his production there, let's look at total TD/TO ratio for Cam as an individual.

After Atlanta, he's sitting at 14-9. Now, let's think here. The first pick was just a tremendous play by the linebacker. 9 times out of 10, that is a ball that isn't tipped. Had Cam held it 1 second later, the linebacker would have been cleared due to the TE coverage he had, and it is a TD. So, let's drop that. Then, the screen pick was a freak play. 9 out of 10, that is either a missed bat down or just a bat down. Take that out. Last pick was a garbage time, meaningless INT. Take that out. Now, you're looking at 14-6. Not too shabby, in comparison to Peyton's 13-2 last season.

I know, it's all a matter of what MIGHT have been, but Cam's picks vs Atlanta really were not his fault. I think we all know that. Hell, had Steve had time to plant his feet, he out-jumps the DB for that first pick and it is a TD. Had a lineman got a hat on the fatass on the screen INT, that never happens. The last one, had we not dug ourselves in a hole, would have never happened, since it was clear by the way it was thrown that Cam said "fug it" and just threw up a jump ball.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
