Would an 80's arcade/bar work?

Can your buddy work on the games?

yep. he has done this for 20 + years. with other side ventures of course.

i think you get the 40 somethings who grew up on this and the hipsters as you mentioned and college age kids who like something new.

there is so much room for tourney's and introduce people to some off the beaten path old films from late 70's to late 80's.

all games a quarter. try to have several 70's and 80's pinball(sorry, they own 90's). I would have a couple of flat screens showing loops of 80's movies. A couple of others showing sports.

Make it a lounge atmosphere with tons of games so it can be a starting point for a little bar crawl or the end point after a long night out.

Have a very simple and solid beer selection and just basic appetiziers to keep food costs down.

Arcade/strip club

Yea but you're going to have to get licenses to show movies. You can't just put on DVDs. Also movie theaters have pretty expensive gear and bars are loud and a bad place to watch movies..You'll definitely get some 40 somethings but you're going to have to make it nice to keep them coming back.

That said, I think it's a good idea and you should do it. I figure you have the financial aspect half-figured.

There is one in Asheville now, it was alright. They had some cool games and a few that were really rare.

Yeah I've been to the Barcade in Asheville a couple times. The 30 somethings who sit at the bar and play mario for 3 hrs straight is kinda depressing.
