why we are regressing..

Yes his yardage is down, but the team is more experienced and has the full play book installed. We should be doing better. In theory, we are a field goal better. Cam's INTs are also up and the deep pass are fewer. I'm not saying the offense has totally been figured out by teams, but the 'surpise' factor is gone.

yeah, Cam isn't going to be treated like a garbage rookie......but teams are still just as clueless as ever. Chi and Atl run a lot of 2 high....and Brees kept him off the field.....that could have a lot to do w/ the limited big pass plays and Cam throwing a lot of mid level stuff.

Our offense stalled in the fourth quarter last week but for 3 quarters it may have looked the best it has looked all season. So I am not worried about our offense. We still need to do better with turnovers and red zone offense but we are fine on that side of the ball.

And I think the defense is not regressing it has stunk since the beginning. But I also think that this system is actually a pretty tough system to get used to and execute. But hopefully the coaches are teaching everyday and the defense will come around.

I agree that the system is more geared to vet then young players and that why we came out a picked up a good DT in FA. Just sucked for us he tore his Tricep in camp. Thats also the reason why we have been picking up SD cut players. They know the system and can help quickly.

Quick Quiz:

What unit is the most important in a Mcdermott defense???

Answer: Linebacker corps

How many linebackers will we have started by the beginning of week 7???

Answer: 8

In McDermott's schemes why is the defense considered a highly accountable defense??

Answer: Because everyone has to be in the right place to make the play or there is a gap integrity issue and big plays result.

Why are we giving up so many big plays??

Answer: Because the constant shuffling at linebacker means that players don't get enough time to work with the same guys in order to build consistency and gel as a unit.

But it has to be the DTs and lack of sacks right??

Answer: actually in McDermott's scheme the linebackers do much of the blitzing. The nose tackle takes up 2 blocks but rarely gets sacks or that many tackles. The 3 technique tackle should get some pressure and penetrate but honestly, he won't dominate a game. By blowing through or stuffing the gaps the linemen are supposed to primarily keep offensive linemen from reaching the second level.

So are we regressing?? Not so much regressing as reacting to the injuries and trying to shore up the gaps with variable and inconsistent success.
