Phillips to Get Start At WLB Sunday, In Place of J. Williams

Am I the only one that has all of these generically named scrub linebackers as interchangeable in their mind? If you were to ask me one difference between Thomas Williams, Jason Williams, and Jason Phillips, I would have absolutely no clue except they all have slightly different names.

I agree. Shuffling those cards I don't think is really going to matter.

Could have had Curry in here, but noooooo, Rivera felt good at linebacker. We could have had Carlos Rogers at corner, but nooooo, Rivera felt good at corner. I've just about had it with this coaching staff already. It seems like every other rookie head coach is having good success except ours. And when we miss opportunities in getting guys that will help us, it's not hard to see why we are failing.

You know your defense sucks when there are guys starting that you've never even heard of.

Are you kidding??? 75% of our roster is full of "no-names" and under-the-radar players!

The reason Phillips didn't get much playing time in Baltimore is for one simple reason...he had to play behind Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs. None of our LBs that are active right now could earn a starting position over either of those guys and Phillips was #2 behind Ray. It was obvious from that goal line stop on Michael Turner that this kid can play and he can make the big tackles. Sure, he made a mistake and bit on that play action that resulted in a touchdown. But I'm pretty sure everybody on this forum will agree that many more crucial mistake have been made this season, i.e. Cam's 3 INTs last week. Jason Williams showed us nothing last week and, with Phillips, we at least saw he can stop the run and I'm sure he won't make the same mistake twice.

It really gets frustrating to see guys on here and start hating on a player because his name doesn't have that marquee look. Like I said when we first signed this kid, lets give him the benefit of the doubt and see how he does, cause fellas, it really can't get any worse than where it is right now. Any type of change has the potential to be good.

WOW...

6 minutes ago - by Steve Reed - OLB Phillips' speed still a question

Coach Ron Rivera on new starting OLB Jason Phillips: "The only thing you question is his top-end speed. But having said that, he’s smart enough to understand angles and how to approach ball carriers.” Panthers RapidReports

So, that 4.6 40 yard dash clearly doesn't translate to on the field. Just goes to show what a joke those measurables are and have little to do with playing football. Beason ran a 4.7+ at his pro day IIRC, and looks like a 4.4 on the field, lol.

Never did I say I doubted him. The only thing I clearly stated is that I have never heard of him.
