Hurney (you knew this thread was coming)

Usually when Hurney tries to make a "bold" move, he fugs up. e.g. AE, EB, contracts to DLo and TD (even the contract to CJ is stupid), extending Delhomme.

When Hurney sits back and drafts without being "bold" and signs FA to reasonable deals, he ends up doing well. e.g. He got JA at a good deal in FA, while drafting many players late in the draft that have panned out.

At this point the Edwards trade does look bad but if he runs one back everything is rosy again.

Brown was nothing but a disappointment,Plain and simple.

DeAngelo contract was a lot but surely not stupid and TD had protections if he got injured again so we are out very little. Delhomme received very little money in the extension that he wasn't going to get anyway. He restructured his salary twice to accomodate the Panthers and the extension was simply paying him what he he lost through the restructurings and a little more for his troubles. But we would have had to pay almost all of it anyway.

Hurney is a gambler which sometimes pans out and sometimes doesn't.

Observer reported Hurney attempted to deal for Clausen complete with Hurney's confirmation. It does mention that the Rams wanted a 1st which Hurney didn't want to trade away:

oh okay so he didn't try to trade a first and you were wrong

that's all you had to say

He DID try to do it. You are inaccurate. The reports were that Hurney attempted to get the Rams' pick, but they wouldn't budge.

Okay I actually just did the research and Hurney absolutely was trying to trade up, but apparently didn't want to trade the 2011 1st. So you can take that one blemish away from him, but so what? That one would have been mind-numbingly stupid even for someone on the Huddle if they were the GM to have done much less an actual professional.

So Hurney explored moving up and when the Rams told him they wanted a first he declined.

Again how is that a bad thing? There are enough things he has done wrong without castigating him for what he almost did and decided not to do.

Hurney is average in the 2nd-5th, but very good in the 1st and 6th/7th. We've had our share of busts, but no more so than any other team. I won't put Otah on Hurney; he's a beast when he's on the field, but can't stay healthy. I don't recall any questions about his healthy prior to the draft; that pick looked like a great one early on, but injury busts happen.

Bottom line, IMO, is we could do a lot worse than Hurney.

How come we haven't discussed that Hurney pulled the trigger on our franchise quarterback for the next decade against all the so-called experts advice. That move alone makes up for the Brown, and Edwards issues alone. And he got him for a third of what Bradford cost St Louis last year.

Just wait if Cam gets hurt, then it'll be nothing but "Hurney mortgaged the franchise for a black asshole that can't stay in the pocket"
