I'm curious as to what exactly the criteria is for an above average GM? Serious question. I'm curious as to your own personal interpretation because you're basically saying a winning team has nothing to do with Hurney's job.

Winning and losing deserves blame shared across the organization and Hurney is no exception.

/homer glasses off

Hurney is average at best.

Look at our first round picks......

we will never be a consistent playoff team with Hurney. Yeah, he does well in the 1st round. But after that he blows. He has tried to fix the WR issue several times and his plan never works. We have the pieces to build around and this should be somewhat of a quick fix, but Hurney is incapable of doing it.

For those talking smack about Hurney, I'm not going to argue he's the best GM out there, but what do you people do for a living? I bet it's not being a GM of a professional sports team now is it?

I also don't play QB for a professional team. But I can tell you Rex Grossman sucks.

You forgot these two picks:

Eric Wood

Mike Iupati

Oh... yeah... those are guys we didn't get because we traded the pick to move up to get Jeff Otah in 2008 and to move up to get Everett Brown and Mike Goodson in 2009.

Lets see how they are doing:

Eric Wood - Center - Drafted by Buffalo.

So a freak accident sidelined him on week 10 the year he was drafted, but he came back and was a starter for 14 games last year, and has started every game this year.

To everyone's surprise, the Bills are 4-2. And they are #4 in rushing offense in the league.

Mike Iupati - Guard - Drafted by the 49ers

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Iupati#Professional_career

Oh, and hey... what do you know... the 49ers are 5-1, with a QB who everyone was thinking was gonna be a bust.

So, basically we gave up two great offensive linemen, who have contributed to their team's winning records, with a bust undersized DE whom we've already released, an injury laden OT who will probably be released, and a late-round RB who has ball control issues and has a hard time making special teams.

When Hurney misses, he winds up shooting this team in the foot.

Why are you even bringing up Wood? He is a center, we already had a talented one in Kali.

And Mike?

We already had a guard in Wharton, and by the end of the 2010 season Schwartz showed he could play at a high level.

Schwartz had a better pressure allowed per snap then Mike. And assisted his team to a better rushing ranking then Mike.

Neither of these players would have helped.

Look at our first round picks......

look at all the other picks minus hardy, johnson, gettis, and kalil...

Then look at the dumbass trades he makes on draft day.

then look at the dumbass financial decisions he has made that have hurt the team. (not trying to trade peppers after the franchise tag, which led to us giving Jake delhomme an absurd amount of money. Giving Deangelo Williams WAAAAAAAAAY too much money this past offseason when we aren't even using him.)

He is no where near an "above average" GM. Hurney has been in a downward spiral recently and I'm tired of it.

do you guys realize the only success we've had with Marty was because we got completely lucky with Jake? We signed a guy no one had even heard of and he turned out to be a great QB. Hurney never did anything significant to prepare for Jake's departure. Even after his surgery, when the writing was on the wall, he didn't do anything to plan for the future. Instead, he gives Jake a ridiculous contract. And at the WR position, Marty is even worse. We've gone through so many bum WRs it's ridiculous.

Now we throw huge money this past offseason, we have barely anything to spend in the future. We have no choice but to build through the draft, but Hurney SUCKS at drafting. Last year I would get so mad at Fox for not playing our young guys. But now I know why he didn't. They SUCK.

Everette Brown, Armanti Edwards, and now Jeff Otah, all draft day trades that will set this franchise back.

His plan, I'm not joking, was for Matt Moore to replace Jake as our starting QB.
