How many of you are Redskins fans, too?

..and seriously, how is it that their name Redskins survived the PC era?
I'm a bit ashamed myself.

I usually refer to the team as the Burgundy and Gold, I wish I could take credit but a former player turned media personality Doc Walker almost always refers to the team as the Burgundy and Gold.

In fact I'm gonna change my sig right now.

Thanks for reminding me.

Never have been a Skins fan. Was born is Asheville and moved to Arizona when i was 4 years old. (moved back to n.c when i was 13)Since my mom and dad are from nc, i always had a soft spot for n.c sports (tarheels mainly) but the panthers were always my 2nd fav team. When i was old enough to actually comprehend the game, i loved watching Kurt Warner and the Rams. The turning point for me switching to the Panthers is when Mike Martz benched Warner for Bulger. I lost respect for the rams and I started following The Panthers since my dad rooted for them. Ever since that nfc championship game vs my ex fav team the Rams, i havn't looked back. It seems like it was yesterday when Smitty caught that pass in O.T to put us in the Super Bowl. One of my fav sports moments of all time

Okay, my turn, my turn.

Umm, okay so born and raised in Charlotte, and I learned what football was when I was around 8 years old. My mom's family is from south Florida, so they would get me Dolphins stuff all the time, and this was the early 80's - Super Bowl appearances (against the hated Deadskins), Dan Marino, Mark Clayton and Mark "Super" Duper, I was a huge fan of that aerial attack. I loved only the Dolphins.

And then, many years later while in college, I was watching the news one night and the NFL officially announced they were expanding to Charlotte. I've never looked back since, not for one second. I've been a devoted hard-core fan since the Panthers were officially born in 1993.

Close to my story...I lived in Ft. Lauderdale in 78-79 and my dad took me to the MNF Patriots game, Dolphins won 24-3. I was in that camp until the Panthers started up. I still followed the Dolphins until they pulled a Dallas on Shula, only gave him the option to retire. The way Marino went out sealed the deal.

Strange dynamics come into play when you get beyond the city limits of NFL teams. Hell, I still wonder where the Panthers/Falcons border really lies. The Greenville paper's sport section certainly does not treat the Carolina Panthers as a local NFL team. It's laughable from a mileage standpoint, yet maybe the 45+years of Falcons influence is just too much to overcome.

I moved around a lot after I joined the Army but always followed my team. In the early days of Iraq invasion I would sit the on that slow NIPR internet and refresh gamecenter, which would run with a 10 minute delay or so, and was grateful that I could actually follow the score at least.

I watched Carolina blank NY Giants in the playoffs at Baghdad Airport in front of so many Giants fans. Was probably the only Panthers fan watching. The only reason so many cheered on Carolina was because of annoying Cowboys fans.

So, I haven't been back to Charlotte since '99 but can never see myself rooting for anyone else. I subject myself to 1-15 seasons and constant heartache all the while throwing away hundreds of dollars on Sunday Ticket.

But when we're on, we're ON. Can't replace that feeling of Superbowl or killing the Bears in the playoffs.

And now with Cam about to lead this team to the heights we'd never imagined, fuhgetaboutit

So, I'm sorry if I fail to understand how you can drop your childhood team and root for Carolina.

I grew up a Rams fan, because I was born in LA. Moved to Chapel Hill when I was 6months, but there weren't any pro teams. So, it was Rams and Dodgers. Then the Rams moved, so they can go fug themselves. Baseball went on strike, so fug them too.

Panthers, Heels and Hurricanes. Fug the rest, and Fug Duke and the Cowboys twice.

I've lived in Virginia my entire life and have never been a Redskins fan. I have ALWAYS hated the Redskins.

Pretty much my entire family is from NC(Fayetteville to be exact) and I probably spend a month out of each year down there, so it's always been Carolina sports and always will be. Really wish you guys had a (professional) baseball team though :P

I have not dropped the Raiders, I am still a fan, always will be. The Panthers have become my #1 team, thats just how it worked out. When the 2 play each other I try to be objective, hope ofr whoever needs it most to win. But Im not trying to lie, if the Raiders do win its a 'Dammit' feeling. Luckily, its only once every 4 years...

Somebody else said something earlier in this thread, not going to look for it, about not being able to have 2 teams... I agree with 2 teams in the same conference. But, like I said earlier, I hope to one day see both teams I pull for in a SuperBowl. In 2003 I was at this sports bar almost every Sunday. I would wear my Raiders jersey inside out under my Panthers jersey. After the 1o'clock game I would just pull it off, flipping it inside out and change hats and be ready for Oakland at 4... Some people gave me grief about it, I gave them the finger...

Well, that's OK....you don't have to. But by that logic you'd have to be puzzled about any life long NFL fan over around 25 years old that claims the Panthers as their #1 team. If I wouldn't have ended up in Upstate SC in 1980 and still living here today it wouldn't have happened.

I still would call the Dolphins my favorite AFC team, but I don't follow very closely....
