Forza 4 Review

I picked up the new Forza 4 last week. I have been a Need for Speed type of guy for a long time with stints of games like Grid (which I thought was well done). I also played Forza 3 for about 2 weeks and never really got into it. So for a guy that likes to play a racing game once in a while here is a brief review if you were wondering about the game.

So if I would have to review the game so far (being only a level 23 driver) is that I really do enjoy the game through and through. I had my first real addicted game session last night (about 2.5 hrs) and I am just thoroughly enjoying it.

The graphics are just phenomenal. The interiors of the cars are immaculate, if the dash is leather wrapped you can see the texture of the leather and even the type of stitching on the leather. I mean everything is to the smallest detail.

The cars transition through upgrades amazingly. Throwing on a twin turbo and noticing different blow off tunes and exhaust blow-back based on the upgrade is amazing to hear. The suspension/tire/down force adjustments you can make really work extremely well and can make your car very competitive. The cars react differently based on weather to the point that I will be sliding off tracks if my car is not tuned correctly. I have never experienced a game where tuning is so important.

The "Career" mode is split up into 2 ways, a grid section and an event by event mode. It seems the event by event is substantially different in terms of AI difficulty. It might be a setting I have yet to find. But the way the grid system is laid out is an awesome way to pick and choose race types that are easier and allow you to rack up quick credits. If you happen to be behind on the car curve in the event by event mode in career you can up your racer level quickly in the grid view and get free cars every level. Pretty neat feature.

Forza also incorporates an Autovision view. This allows you to pick apart and view about I would say 25 cars (guess since I cant remember) to great detail. Jeremy Clarkson (for you TopGear fan boys) break downs the cars ups and downs for every model and really explains what they are worth. You can get in the cockpit of these cars and view what the floor mats look like on a Bugatti Veyron. Or what the engine compartment looks like on a couple Ferrari's. I was really impressed by this feature.

Overall I would have to say that if you are a casual gamer like myself and appreciate taking a LMP1 racer around LeMans or playing a very exciting career mode at a casual pace. I think Forza is definitely worth your money.

Imo your better off buying a real wheel than that controller, or else you will spend time chasing your car instead of racing.force feed back is the only way to go.. you can prob grab a used xbox wheel for less than that controller .

If you plan to really get into this game I would suggest the fanatic an inferior site or thrustmaster t5000 both will cost quite a bit but its well worth it, you feel as if your really driving. The only thing missing are the g forces.

This game is amazing, I love the new playground games such as soccer. Forza has been my favorite racing game( for a console ) since it 1st came out, and like all the other ones this one has impressed me as well. I just wish they had the Dodge and Toyota stock cars.

I heard that you can't drive any Porsches because EA has a licencing agreement with them. Does EA have to ruin everything!

meh Porsche's are poo so it doesn't really bother me. Now if they lost the rights to Ferrari and I couldn't drive my 458 or Koenigsegg and the Agera then I would be pissed. Pagani would probably piss me off to, the Zonda-C and Zonda-R are sick cars in the game....

Oh I forgot to tell you Biscuit that they came out with a controller specific to this game. Well it can be used for others but it was developed for it. Its the same idea as a handheld controller but in the shape of a wheel.

I use this controller to play Call of Duty.

Need for speed franchise has all Porsche's on lockdown. I love the Carrera GT but its love not lost when I can drive a CCX or any LMP1 car my heart desires. I am somewhat surprised they didnt have open wheel racers. IIRC there were some open wheel cars in the earlier Gran Tourismo games. Is there a reason why they have excluded them here? I am still enjoying this game, although I am trying to find time to play Crisis 2.

    • And we just started playing competitive football. Now look we beat a decent team. We can celebrate winning, it will be ok…
    • It doesn't matter if you give him a new WR1. To do it you have to devoted MORE resources to him. At some point you have to stop or there's nothing left for the defense. Our defense looks like scrubs because that's what we've got because we've spent a shitload on offense. He got a 1st round WR and a shiny new RB in round 2.  Bryce had a couple of good games but we are not competing against the Chiefs or Eagles. They're headed to the playoffs with realistic SB aspirations and we're headed to a top 10 pick. Those teams have competed for an entire season where the Panthers have ummm... They've almost gotten to as many wins as Matt Rhule in a season.  Would you rather have Bryce or Lamar? Because we've spent more on Bryce and to build around him than what it would have cost to trade for Lamar.  This team can't get better when it's having to devote everything to making it possible for our #1 QB god to play average NFL football.  I may end up being wrong and Bryce may become the GOAT. But one thing you won't see me doing is flip flopping on where I stand every couple of weeks because he has good or bad games. I think Bryce is our version of Daniel Jones and I think we're going to fug ourselves pretending he's Pat Mahomes.
