/r/nfl trying to say Dalton deserves RoTY over Newton

cam is putting up terrific numbers, but the margin of error is less for him to make roty because if he has bad games to nullify what he's accomplished...the team still has a losing record.

Peyton Manning went 3-13 his rookie season and threw 28 picks and still won ROY. Cam is a lock for ROY. The only people who cant see that ironically are "Panther fans" who did not want to draft him in the first place.

I hear the media scream that The Golden Calf of Bristol has something wrong with his arm and because of that he can't throw straight. But honestly, if u sit there and nitpick all these QBs, I'm sure u'd find something to say about their mechanics.

Peyton Manning had his shares of criticism about his mechanics but unlike today, folks weren't turning into endless discussions on the internet and the talking heads didn't spend hours rehashing the issue.

certainly Manning had questions but nothing even remotely like what The Golden Calf of Bristol had coming out.

I don't really think the media or the internet forums do much to influence the actual talent evaluators in clubs that are passing judgment on players... and The Golden Calf of Bristol is one many teams passed on for a reason.

Race hits close to home with some of these posters. It shapes their outlook on life more than they care to admit publicly. Thats why they always run from the discussion or at the least try to dictate it. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to see it. I just think its sad even with the QB play we've been getting this year we got fans still wanting to paint the grass as greener because they just cant relate to the guy we got out there. They cant see themselves in him. And I think thats important to note, because no matter what I think they can see themselves in an Andy Dalton or a Mallet. They just relate to those guys more and have a more positive view of them. Id say the vast majority of our fans arent like this, but as we see on this board that element DOES exist in our fanbase and always has despite people being a shield to it.

ya know, I'd rather you stop using generalities and start pointing out specific posters you feel this way about. Since you tend to say it in threads I post in a fair amount, I sometimes wonder if you mean me, but you never really bother to respond to anything I say about it, so sometimes I wonder if you're just trolling. At least other posters can point to GrG as someone they think is guilty of bias in some form. But I guess when you're dealing with the kind of racial accusations you make, it takes a bit more than you have to stand up and really point a finger. Easier to make broad, general comments that can cast a wide net that undoubtedly have some basis in truth even if they aren't applicable to the thread they're posted in...

Imo, theres a slight division. If there were an OROY and Most Valuable Rookie of the Year (just a metaphor folks), Cam would get most valuable. We only have 1 win, but this team would be flat out uncompetitive without out. Games would be over by halftime.

I still don't think its accurate to judge a QB solely on wins. You can't win them by yourself. Unless your name is Brady or Peyton, and Brady even had some good defenses.

It's not fair to judge a QB only on wins, but it's not like Dalton has been even close to bad overall, either. That's why, if he was to continue how he's playing and the Bengals continue playing how they are I could see him winning it, even if Cam continues to impress.

Would that give you vindication for not wanting him originally and wanting Dalton?

I wonder if there are Cincy fans pulling for Cam to win ROY. Probably not.

i'm not pulling for dalton to win roty. i could care less about the award. to claim that cam is a lock 6 games into the season is ridiculous.

just fyi...i wanted dareus in the first, and dalton in a later round.

the team would have had anchors for both sides of the ball for years to come.

as it is now, the defense is 2-3 seasons away from being relevant.

Me too, but the problem with this is the Panthers gave away their 2nd rounder in order to draft another quarterback, :( So picking Dalton was out.
