/r/nfl trying to say Dalton deserves RoTY over Newton

how many pass attempts does Dalton have? Cam's throwing 30-40+ a game

And whose fault is that? You wanna blame Dalton for being more efficient with his opportunities than Cam?

They score more points than us. That's what matters. They were able to put up 30 points on the Jaguars. We have had 3, 500 offensive yard games and can't manage to do more than 23 points unless it's in garbage time.

If we score on the 2 drives we typically give away points on then Cam won't have to throw for 40 times a game to try and catch up. But to answer your question Andy's had 189 passing attempts. Cam's got 40 more total for the year or about 7 extra attempts per game. Guess what? Most of those are practice attempts. How many of those have been in garbage time when we already lost the game? How many of those are when we are down going into the 4th quarter? How many of those are because he's less accurate than Dalton?

Regardless of the schedule, if Cam Newton didn't also have a rookie coaching staff and a defense giving up close to 30 points a game, the Panthers would be at least 4-2 right now also.

Dalton has an experienced coaching staff, a good defense, and of course a weak schedule. Idiots need to quit overlooking the fact that the only way the Panthers will win most weeks is if their offense scores 35 points, because their defense is going to give up around 30.

Panthers have scored 27, 26, 23, 21 in four of the six games. For most NFL teams with an NFL-level defense, two of those would be guaranteed wins and the other two likely wins.

Not the Panthers...because their defense sucks.

Because he's getting better each week, he has 3 games with over 100% QB rating versus only 1 by Cam, including 2 back to back, the past 2 weeks and ..........he's winning. He's a better game manager so far. He's also proven to be a better 4th quarter QB so far. Andy Dalton has had 4 game winning drives in the 4th quarter which all directly resulted in wins versus 1 by Cam. It's not even close.

Yards mean poo. Wins are what matters. 4th quarter points and drives to seal the game is what makes a QB stand out and a hero.

He's playing sh*t teams too. If the defense had done it's fugging job and kept Brees from scoring a TD with 50 secs left Cam would have a game-winning drive against the Saints. Dalton is beating the fuggin' Browns.

if the bengals end up in the playoffs and we're still stuck at the bottom I think you'd probably have to give it to dalton. Dalton has been completely solid and any other year he'd be getting much more exposure. But he has help...

Cam does not have help and yet he is playing well overall. If we can put together some wins, his "campaign" for roty would be helped significantly. As it is now, I can understand, based on wins, why some would argue Dalton should be in the conversation and maybe win it. Personally, I tend to see it as more of an individual award so I think Cam should win it, but the reality is how the team is doing plays into it, too

I think the point you're missing is that Dalton is actually winning.

Yes, they've had an easier schedule, but he can't control that. Yes, they have a FAR superior defense, but he can't control that. What he can control is beating a then-undefeated Bills team, beating the Jags, and dominating the Colts. Yes, easy tasks, but we struggled with the Jags and we've lost every other game. At what point did "feel good" losses to good teams become better than wins?

The reality is the Bengals are a better team and Dalton is playing well. Cam is also playing very well, and I think it's way too early in the season to be sure who will win the award.

Right now, I'd personally go with Cam but I think Dalton has played great and has a team many thought would be racing for luck in position to make a push for the playoffs.

Two points to put this argument to sleep:

1. The Bengals have played one playoff team from last year, the Colts. The Panthers have played four out of the six playoff teams from the NFC last year and Rodgers, Cutler, Brees and Ryan.

Ok, they beat the upstart Bills and stole that game. The Bills were also the victims of the tuck rule, just sayin'.

2. The Bengals defense is ranked 2nd in total defense and 7th in scoring defense. That might have something to do with Fitzpatrick being the best QB they've faced. (I'm realllllly hoping someone triest to argue that Alex Smith is a top QB nowadays)

When you look at it, this is kind of like comparing the SEC to the MWC.
