Panthers moving to a 3-4??? Says McDerm

The 2nd quote suggests we're talking about more 3-4 looks, not changing the base defense at least in the immediate future.

To try to change to a 3-4 base defense in the middle of the season would be a complete disaster.

Like it hasn't been a disaster at all as a 4-3? If we were 4-2 I'd understand. At 1-5, there's NOTHING to lose.

I mean, who the hell changes defensive schemes in the middle of the season?

A team desperate for answers with a completely awful defense.

I mean, they already have 3-4 packages installed. If they think those packages are simply performing better than our base defenses packages, maybe the switch is the right thing to do.

As to Beason, he'll adjust. He strikes me as the kind of player that will make an impact as the leader of a defense even if he has to play a different position. He was doing OK last year when we switched the defense up so much due to injuries I thought.

And CJ? How the hell is CJ gonna be a pass rusher in a 3-4 defense?

we dont have the personnel to run the 3-4 at all......this doesnt seem like a good idea

If you play Kearse and Fields more, then it's at least a little better personnel wise.

NT - Fields/Kearse

RE - Sua/McClain (McClain had some 3-4 teams interested in him as a 3-4 guy)

LE - Hardy (It seems they like Johnson in the Elephant role)

OLB - Johnson and Applewhite are the starters (backed up by Williams and Norwood)

ILB - Anderson and Connor (Backed up by Gaithers and Phillips)

That puts the Dline as oversize with some pass rush from Hardy (Johnson should be able to use his raw power even more effectively with more running room.)
