The 2nd quote suggests we're talking about more 3-4 looks, not changing the base defense at least in the immediate future.

To try to change to a 3-4 base defense in the middle of the season would be a complete disaster.

Panthers ran some 3-4 vs the Falcons w Charles Johnson and Antwan Applewhite at OLB. Ron Fields and Frank Kearse both are true noseguards.

London Fletcher adjusted well to playing ILB in a 3-4, Beason could do the same.

I don't think we're talking about a total scheme change, just incorporating more 3-4 looks.

In the long term, I think we're talking about changing to a 3-4 base scheme - which I was expecting to hear at some point given Rivera's success in SD with it.

In this passing league, a 3-4 defense gives you many more options to attack the passer then a 4-3 does.
