Whats with Chud and the dreaded 3rd and 2?

I'm seeing a trend. 3rd and 2, you are marching down the field and Chud tells Cam to throw a deep pass, which 90% of the time is overthrown/thrown out of bounds/ or missed. 3rd and 2....the easiest down to convert. Just frecking get the 1st down, by either A. Running or B. Short Slant route and get the frecking 1st down!!!

understandable. But on downs with only 2 yards..they need to start using the quick slant or some fade routes. Hell have Cam run up the middle for 2 yards to get the first down then slide. Either way, this is the 2nd time we have had good drives do nothing on a short 3rd and 2 play which i believe could have been converted very easily.

3rd and 2 might be the most difficult play in the game for a team who can't pound the ball up the middle.

We aren't a good running team this year.

If we ran up the guy and got stuffed or picked off on a quick slant everyone would be asking why we are not going down field on that play with it being wide open.

People are going to second guess whatever happens. I am sure the coaches are going with what is the highest probability of success.

We were 8-12 on 3rd downs yesterday. You can't ask for much better than that on the road against a good defense. The play calling on those crucial downs was good. We were unlucky not to pick up a couple of those 3rd downs. We picked up a few 3rd and shorts by running the ball... Cam took a couple on his own and I think we ran Stew or D for another.

I wouldn't say that we aren't a good running team this year. Stewart is avereging 4.8 ypc and 5.2 ypc for Williams. Are we as consistent as we've been in the past in the running game? Not even close; at least not thus far this season, but the running game has been pretty good actually these last 3 weeks.

Would have done some kind of outside run or off tackle with a pulling guard or a lead blocker.

I don't mind going downfield on 3rd and short, but that pass would have never been completed with double coverage like that. Would have rather him hit the TE out the backfield (think it was Olsen), who looked to me to be wide open for at least 6 yards.

Then again, I'm not a coach. They know what they're doing (at least we hope).

We aren't a power running team, all the plays are finesse or misdirection plays. When it comes time to line up in the I form and run a dive or blast, it gets smashed and ends badly.

Maybe he thinks Cam will drop back and either 1. complete the long pass play, 2. hit the secondary receiver, 3. find a check down, or 4. Tuck and pick up the first down with his legs.

Never understood why people see a play call and think there was only one planned option. Cam could have easily made a different choice despite whatever the primary read was.

I personally don't want to see us start running the ball on 3rd and 2. Keep putting it in Cam's hands and let him figure out how to make the decisions.

They are airing it out with Cam, its exciting to watch, he his becoming experienced, and soon, when all the other pieces are right, we will start winning games.
