Why I'm Glad Fans Have No Say In the FO

We also played a MUCH friendlier schedule that year. Seriously, does anyone remember that we've played against last year's playoff teams every week but Jacksonville?

At this point I don't care a whole ton about what teams did last year. The way our defense is playing, it doesn't matter who we play.

I mean hell, both the Bears and the Falcons had losing records when they beat us and weren't exactly looking like the world beaters they were last year...

I just really, really, really, really, really hope we can pull one out against the Redskins/Vikings and enter the bye week 3-5.

Not gonna lie though, Adrian Peterson scares the absolute poo out of me lulz.

And enough can't be said about how much fortitude it took to pick Cam #1. The pressure to get that pick right so great that teams often try to trade out of the #1,

Hurney said up until draft day we were still open to trades but he never got a single request.

He made the right choice with Cam, but he clearly was still entertaining other ideas.

Hurney's made some good first round picks, that's true, but that is kind of what you're supposed to do in the first round. I think he's an average GM based on the last few years.

This is true, but they had both been steamrolled by Green Bay before we got them, which tends to make teams look worse than they are. Again, I understand the frustration, but part of being a fan of any team is keeping perspective on the big picture.

its okay the vikings inexplicably don't run him in the second half in some games.

but yes, I am concerned about those games because we are basically going with our weakness against our strength.

On the bright side our offense can score.

The big picture here is that this franchise has been losing for a number of years and until it proves it can win by actually winning, a lot of us won't be very happy. No amount of great statistical performance by Cam will really change much of that at this point.

you realize that cam wasn't hurneys pick right?

also you didn't answer what quality of gm you think he is, average above average below average terrible elite ect ect. Also didn't answer if you think we should keep him around or not.

Cam is as much Hurney's pick as any draft choice is. I personally think that Hurney is an above average GM in a league of above average GMs. I don't consider any GM to be elite, because a lot of them have poor draft years for one reason or another it's an imperfect science, and almost every fanbase thinks the NFL works just like Madden. One thing you also have to keep in mind is that drafts are made based on what a team thinks its need for the next season will be, but that's just as difficult to project as the prospects themselves are. Clausen might have ended up as a better choice if Delhomme hadn't self-destructed like he did, but hindsight is 20/20 and Jake did a huge amount for this franchise when he was here.

So yes, I'd keep him.

The Redskins game is probably winnable but you never know which Redskins team will show. Some days they look like legit playoff contenders, some days they look like, well, yeah lolz. bad.

If we can't beat the Vikings, we need to go ahead and end the season right then and there because you can't recover from that.

A number of years is an exaggeration. If we lose this year it will be three seasons in a row, which is hardly the kind of futility other franchises have experienced. Again, I'm not saying to be happy with moral victories, only to understand that this is a process that does not happen overnight, and that by all normal parameters we are actually well ahead of schedule.

incorrect, i could write out a huge diatribe explaining how it wasn't his call but i dont feel like it

do you understand the concept of average?

I'd suspect it would be more because your post would be long on diatribe and short on facts.

You know what I meant. If I had to rank Hurney I'd put him at 5th best out of the 31 GMs in the league (Al Davis being dead, of course.)

So because we aren't the Lions, Redskins, or Bengals (all three of whom are better than we are this year) we should "appreciate the bigger picture"? I'm glad we found Cam and all, but he can't win games alone.

While Cam is playing well I can't see how by any measure the team as a whole is ahead of schedule. By the same token our defense is playing so totally abysmally it really can't possibly be something where the entire team is ahead of schedule.

1-5 is right where I thought we'd be... heh. Rivera's the one that said we could win 10 games, not me. ;) I'm pretty sure that he, and the players, are not happy with where we are and don't think that we are ahead of schedule.
