Why I'm Glad Fans Have No Say In the FO

More specifically:

1) No poo, we're not paid for this, but then again, the guys that are traded a 2nd to draft Armanti Edwards. You can't fix a defense with midseason trades but you can improve it. Not to mention, it's not as if it was *mid season* when it became apparent we could use an upgrade at DT and CB. There are players out there better than what we have (at DT anyway), so I don't buy that we just can't fix it. Bullshit. We don't want to because the FO wants its guys to step up, and it's worried those guys will lose playing time bringing in anyone better.

2) lol luck, yeah, sorry, if we were 2-3 or 3-2 or something I'd buy it. This team is just bad, no Luck about it.

3) No you're right, one player doesn't. But it wasn't as if we had to do what we did this offseason. It could have played out differently, but JR/Hurney have made it clear they want to build from within instead of go through FA. That's fine and all, but I'm wishing we'd dug a slight bit deeper for another CB and DT.

4) We have no idea if Ron is a "brilliant" coach. We also don't know if it was even his choice to start Cam, but I'll give him credit for sticking with that choice. That doesn't make him a brilliant coach, though, because it doesn't take much to go with the unknown over Jimmy Clausen or Derek Anderson. Everything else we've seen about Rivera has not been even close to overwhelmingly positive. His team lacks discipline, makes mental mistakes left and right. His clock management is poor. His decision making/game planning is strange. Overall, I've not been impressed. I'm NOT saying fire him, but I think it's fair to say he has not looked good so far. I'm willing to give him a break on it but I'd like to actually see this team improve.

How many losing seasons are okay before we get pissed when we start 1-5?

Ahh yes. Yet another thread complaining about those that complain. Seriously didn't read. I always hate those that pull the "glad you're not a coach" or "glad the fo doesn't listen to you" card or whatever bullsh** along those lines. Its a pathetic and weak arguement. Message boards exist for people to express their opinions. Im tired of the White Knights who think they are superior above everyone else with an opinion. If you have an issue with those that express their concern then leave or dont read. It's that simple. Yes there are some dumb threads out there but I don't even open them.

Rivera definitely gets credit for having the balls to draft and start Newton.

On the actual coaching side of things, the jury is still very much out. He might end up being great and deserves much more than 6 games of one season, but to date hasn't really stood out as good, much less outstanding. At this point we're still a bottom-tier team that looks sloppy and undisciplined. We're also the fuging embodiment of "all sizzle, no steak".

Ok, so why can't one such opinion be "shuddup complainers"? Because you're tired of it?

That's a moronic outlook to have. There are no guaranteed winning coaches, GMs, players or franchises in any sports league on the planet. None. Judge the front office on their own merits, not on the merits of hypotheticals that have no basis in reality.

This team will improve. This team will take some lumps. This team will lose, sometimes big. This team WILL WIN, and when it learns how to win, it will do so convincingly, repeatedly, and will contend for a very long time.

... the hell?

Fantastic post. Really sums up my thoughts on the team as well.

I find it hilarious that, the people who claim the post was too long, still took the time to post and say it was too long. They care enough about the Panthers to bitch and moan but can't take two minutes to read a well thought out post. Classic huddlers.

1) No, there are not better players just sitting around out there. Seriously, if you actually believe this, you're an idiot. There might be some marginally more talented DTs and CBs on a practice squad somewhere, but you're not going to bring them in and have them right away improve the defensive play without the benefit of knowing the schemes, so what's the point?

2) That was actually my point. We are a bad team, at the moment, but not as bad as some of the bad breaks on some 50/50 balls may make us look at times. The defense is not good enough to win consistently. This was obvious the moment we lost Beason and Davis (which is a factor of luck!)

3) Both our cornerbacks and DTs are being exposed due to the lack of a veteran presence at DT (which was what Ron Edwards was going to provide) and the reduced linebacking play which leaves our CBs on islands and more vulnerable than they normally would be. The flaws are accentuated because of the loss of two of our defensive leaders.

4) Has Rivera made some mistakes? Sure. Our penalties haven't been too bad from a number standpoint, only that they seem to come at the worst times. He stresses that it is an issue, but coaches can only control so much about penalties. At some point, the players have to stop making them. And it was certainly Rivera's decision to not only start Cam, but build the offense around him. This is why the Olsen and Shockey trades went down, to get pieces in place for the offense they wanted Cam to run. Again, it was a brilliant decision because it was the gutsy one: putting the team in the hand of a rookie and putting him in position to succeed now and in the future. Rivera knows what type of league this is, and wants us to be more in the mold of the explosive Packers than the ball control scheme we were.

In the first season after a 2-14 catastrophe? Can you at least give them one?

Yes... in college basketball, and from certain college football teams with a lot of freshmen. Hell, maybe even an MLB team. But in the NFL? NOPE. You play to win, your goal EVERY year is the Playoffs, and you put the best team out there you can and try your best to coach them to victory. You do not allow yourself to be okay with defeat because you were 2-14 last season and because your coach is new as are his plays. That's a retarded mindset.

I'm glad guys like you aren't the GM. "Don't worry, boys, we'll get em next year! Good moral victory today! Don't worry about the fans, they'll come around in 365 days."

Ok... I'm debating. Must stop.

You know why you hate those kinds of posts? Because you don't want to put in the effort to discount anything they say, just return to complaints that get blown out of the water by people who observe more in a single play than most fans see in an entire game.

I'm not saying to not express your opinion. But if you don't put any logical statements out there to back it up don't be mad when you're called out.

So, if it's a pathetic and weak argument. . .are you going to enlighten us as to why?

At no point am I saying the team shouldn't compete, or try to win every game. But reality is a b*tch, and she smacks everyone when they refuse to see it. We are missing pieces that could not be solved in a single offseason. This is a fact. If we are not vastly improved by next season, then I will agree that fans have a valid reason for concern. But our holes from last year started at the most important position, and this is the season we addressed it. Right now, it looks like we have our QB of the future, so most of our energy next season can focus on the flip side of the ball. In football, if you can at least solve 2 of the 3 phases of the game, you can contend, so again, give them a season.

AGAIN, IF ANYONE ASSUMES I AM FINE WITH LOSING, YOUR READING COMPREHENSION RIVALS THAT OF A RETARDED SNAIL (OR A FALCONS FAN.)

I'm pointing out why we should continue to look forward to growth, and manage our expectations appropriately, because the fact is that we are missing pieces. If we're still missing them next season, feel free to complain, but for now see what we have, not what you wish we had.
