maybe this is a stupid question...but if everyone is infected then wouldn't they ALL be zombies??

not until they die. the complication in this particular canon is how does a scratch kill anyone if they're already infected? wouldn't any scratch or wound cause someone to turn? or is there a dormant airborne version and a more effective "live" version transmitted through a bite or scratch?

that's why the "how" of the situation starts to drag down the story, which is the devolution of normally good human beings thrown into a live or die situation.

shane was already an asshole when poo hit the fan, but rick was a genuinely good person that always (and continues for awhile) to do what he thinks is right, usually to bad effect.

how long could the best of us hold up under these circumstances without turning into shane?

ultimately, rick is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't, and that's what the story revolves around.

Fantastic episode last night. Loved the lone walker in the field that Shane kept staring at. As CWG said they did mention that it had been at least a week from the previous episode, as Rick tells Shane when he stiops the car in the middle of nowhere that he's been waiting a week for this to talk to him.

I think I'm in the minority, but I really like Shane. Rick's moral compass constantly puts the group in harm's way. Shane is very direct about how things have changed and I love the power behind some of his quotes. When they closed out the mid-season finale and Rick and Herschel were steering the walkers into the barn, Shane said "It's not the same as it was before!" Truer words were never spoken. Things have changed. My morals wouldn't last too long in this situation. Then Shane is talking to Rick in last night's episode and says "One shot to the leg, Carl lives" Shane's all about surviving and doing what needs to be done. Maybe he'll kill you if he deems you to be expendable like Otis and Randall, but I just really hate how Rick annointed himself the leader and everyone should follow him and his conflicted feelings without question.

I'm sorry, but if it's me and my best buddy in that scenario and I think the kid needs to die because he knows where the farm is, and my buddy wants to think about it for a day, I'm gonna shoot the kid and argue about it later. Who gave Rick a 51% ownership stake in this group that he makes the decisions? If I'm Shane I'm feeling like I've kept this group alive looong before you even woke up Rick, so kiss my ass you self-righteous prick.

A good leader considers everything and then takes action. Rick is a leader.

A bad leader just does what he feels is needed and tries to justify it later. That's Shane.

The problem is when someone who is a bad leader feels he has the ability to be a good leader and will do bad things to be the leader and justify it later. People have a limited ability to see "what could have been" and mostly see the way things are.
