So who would you like the Panthers to draft with our 4th overall pick?

Newton gotta have someone to throw to, and Smith is getting there. They still double teaming him. And Gettis, who knows how he respond, knowing this damn team with injuries

I'd rather sign a free agent WR (wishful thinking, I know) vs using another draft pick on one, especially a first rounder. WR might be one of the hardest positions to evaluate. And historically, we haven't been great at selecting WR. Smitty, Gettis, Lafell, Shockey, Olsen, Stew. That's a solid array of weapons for Cam to work with.

I really think every one of our picks should be on defense. I don't even give a crap about reaching because a offensive player is rated higher. Defense needs significant improvement. Trade down to get more picks and pick all defense. If you can't trade down then draft a CB and the rest should be all defense.

top 5? either of these 3.

Kalil is a monster...Gross is aging. OT is very important. May could play DE as well, haha. Has a very good personalty, would get along with teammates.

Justin Blackmon seems to me to be the best receiver.

A.J... I think comes right behind him. Watching both on film...makes me like Blackmon more.

Burfict, his attitude on the field seems to be a bit of a problem, but in the NFL, that can be straightened out easily. He's very young. Okay now as a player...man, what a fugging beast.

I believe.. best talent and skill is probably 55% of decision making, when it comes to determining your draft pick, many GMs say that. Position need the 2nd biggest portion. Intangibles come in play as well. That's the best way to evaluate.

Defense needs the most retooling..obviously, but we have other picks to work with.

Since I feel like we'll be picking top ten as of right now, here are the terms of trade ups/downs involving the top ten pick in recent years

2008

No. 7: Patriots to Saints. New England traded its first- and fifth-round selections (No. 7 and 164) to New Orleans for New Orleans' first- and third-round selections (No. 10 and 78).

No. 8: Ravens to Jaguars. Baltimore traded its first-round selection to Jacksonville for Jacksonville's first-round selection, two third-round selections, and fourth-round selection (No. 26, 71, 89, 125).

2009

#5: Cleveland → New York Jets (D). Cleveland traded its first-round selection (5th overall, used to select Mark Sanchez) to the Jets for the Jets' first- and second-round selections (17th overall; and 52nd overall, used to select David Veikune), Kenyon Coleman, Brett Ratliff, and Abram Elam.

--Cleveland then traded down again

#17: Cleveland → Tampa Bay (D). Cleveland traded its first-round selection it acquired from the Jets (17th overall) to Tampa Bay for first- and sixth-round selections (19th overall; and 191st overall, used to select Coye Francies).

--and again

#19: Cleveland → Philadelphia (D). Cleveland traded the first-round selection it acquired from Tampa Bay (19th overall, used to select Jeremy Maclin) to Philadelphia for first- and sixth-round selections (21st and 195th overall, used to select Alex Mack and James Davis, respectively).

2011

#6: Cleveland → Atlanta. (D) Cleveland traded this pick to Atlanta for Atlanta's first (27th overall, which later became #26), second (59th) and fourth-rounder (124th) and also Atlanta's first- and fourth-round selections in 2012.

#10: Washington → Jacksonville. (D) Jacksonville acquired this pick from Washington for Jacksonville's first- (16th overall) and second-round (49th) selections.

i like Burfict and Blackmon as players, BUT there's no way i see them getting Kalil. i think whoever has the 2nd or 3rd gets him. say indy gets Luck. Miami i think has the 2nd pick and gets Landry Jones. then i see the Rams getting Matt Kalil. their offensive line isnt helping Bradford

I really hope someone will trade picks with us. Like that last trade with washington and Jacks, moving down just 6 spots and getting an additional 2nd round choice? Yes please.

If we are sitting at 4th and it goes QB, QB, Kalil then I think this is very possible. A team will likely want to trade up to get the last of those top 3 franchise guys.

I just have to lol at people saying to draft Coples. He looks like a really good DE, but wtf are we gonna do with Coples, Hardy, and Johnson? Have the smallest DL since 1952? We'd have to sign a 450 lbs DT to plug into the middle to make it an average weighted DL. Otherwise, who you gonna bench to play our #4 overall pick? Hardy or Johnson?

If we're picking #4, imo it's gotta be Kalil or Blackmon (considering what the prospects are looking like so far). If we can trade down to the 20s, I could see going with a DT or CB but not top 10. I'd be ok with a LB in the 2nd, rather not take one in the 1st. DT and CB are much bigger needs than LB. CB looks real deep, we could probably get one in the 2nd that'd be almost as good as who we could get in the 1st. I've gone over this in the CB thread in the draft forum, not gonna repeat it all. Hopefully Brandon Thompson really starts shining, we can trade down to at least the 2nd half of the 1st round and pick him because DT really seems like our biggest need right now, I just don't wanna reach in the top 10 for one. Top 10, you really gotta go BPA at a position of need - which would be Kalil, Blackmon or Jeffrey in my opinion.

You really need more than 2 DEs in the NFL. 3 should be a bare minimum for depth/rotation. People always use injuries as an excuse but it's this type of situation that leads us to be so vulnerable to the point where a couple injuries can completely derail a season. Not saying I'm for or against Coples just sayin... lol
