Harbaugh>Rivera

Wait a minute...so Harbaugh is a better coach because his team with arguably the best MLB in the game and a top 10 RB in the worst division in football is 5-1?

No. Because he has the same players as the guy that went 6-10 and has already beat three good teams on the road: Cincinatti, Philly and Detroit. As pointed out he didn't consider coaching here so it's irrelevant but Rivera's inexperience has been pretty evident. We can only hope he improves like the rest of the team.

this thread is unreal...not even half way into Rivera's first season and people are already hating on him. First of all...49ers were already loaded w/ talent when Har. came in. All they needed was a new school coach. Solid WR's, Gore, 2 1st rounders on the OLine, and oh yea Willis. Team is stacked.

Rivera has a crippled defense w/ 0 DTs. Every one of the losses the D has given up 30 points or more. That puts way too much pressure on the offense. We dont have Brady to light up the scoreboard every game.

Bogus thread. Rivera is the right guy for this team.

Harbaugh has done a great job so far, however he walked into a better situation than Rivera did.

This is a pre-mature thread in my opinion. Let's see where each coach is after three seasons.

The 49ers have some pieces in place. Not to mention 6 out of thier 16 games are against the likes of the Cardinals, Rams and Seahawks. They should walk away with their division, and honestly, they should have been winning the division for the past couple of years. Their defense is stout and they have some great offensive weapons in Gore and Davis. Not too mention Ginn in their return game. The only thing lacking from that team has been consistent QB play, which they are now getting from a turned around Alex Smith.

100% agree

It's a valid discussion. I loved the Rivera hire, but Harbaugh was my first choice and he hasn't had the mistakes that Rivera has this season.

Also, we have to take into account that Harbaugh is still working with a relatively healthy team (especially on defense), and Rivera is not, but still you have to wonder if refusing to even consider him is going to cost us down the road.

Harbaugh has been a head coach for years, Rivera has been a head coach for weeks. Duh

Lol the 49ers have pretty much sucked ass for the better part of ten years but they are a more "established" team.

How so?

Losing record 101- When a team sucks, they get to draft high. Over time, this tends to improve the quality of the players on the team. Even with a bad FO (see Detroit Lions), sooner or later the wins come. SF didn't suck ass last year. They finished 6-10. Their success this season shouldn't be that much of a surprise, and Harbaugh shouldn't get all the credit.

Personally, I don't give a crap if Harbaugh is a better coach. He's not a guy we can draft or trade for, so what's the point of fawning over him?

Yeah, like for real. It's not like Rivera is such a rookie that he would try to change the whole defense to another scheme in mid-course or anything. :cheers2:

Great example with the Lions. 10 years of high draft picks before they put any semblance of a season together.

Not exactly a success story.

You guys do know Harbaugh coaches the offense, which isn't that good right? Shouldn't you be pissing blood over us not signing the DC as head coach or something? I mean I understand Harbaugh is 4 and 1 and could be the next Mangenius or Josh McDaniels, but he doesn't even oversee the good part of his team.

The 49ers are only 5-1 because of there defense. If we could put together anything better than a practice squad defense on Sundays we would have a chance. Our defense is terrible. The dline is on roller skates all game and the linebackers can't get off any blocks. its gonna be a long seaon
