Optimism Is Gone

If beason, Davis, and Edwards weren't injured we'd probably have our record reversed. We also have Gettis at wr. I guess depth is the problem for us four now. Our linebackers can't tackle poo and the db's struggle.

I don't know, it's possible. I think our passing defense would still be suspect... but yes, our run D would be better.

I think even in that scenario we'd still be leaning too much on Cam.

Difference is, you don't find franchise QBs in the free agent market. You can only get them in the draft.

Changed your name but keep beating the troll drum... DT could've been addressed in FA.

You're right, you don't. We made the right choice. But, at the time, I thought this team would be much better if we addressed defense in the draft. The fears I had about the team ultimately were true... but I was wrong about Cam.

Franchise QBs are often made by the team around them. It's a combination of all things on the team, including scheme.

Many people felt QB wasn't as big a need as DT and with a new scheme the QBs we had or could have brought in would be good enough to make this team compete for a playoff spot.

It's not a knock on Cam, he's exceeded all expectations with his play thus far, it's just a difference in philosophy.

I don't really mind losing these tough games this year. Anyone that watches the games should know that we have a shot to win every game we play. At best we are a 7-9 team right now, I don't see how that would be better than a 5-11 season and a high pick next draft. We'll have a much better opurtunity to bust out with a weaker strength of schedule.

Oh, and Cam Newton's only played six games. It's like Panther fans have already forgotten how lucky we are to have him. Seriously, I watch him and I think superbowls. They'll learn how to win very soon, and they'll be doing a lot of it.

At best we're 5-1 right now, with the hardest part of our schedule out of the way and well on the way to legitimately ending the season at worst 8-8

But as long as we're in position in drafting every DT worth a fug in next year's draft I don't care.

This just in guys, QB's have bad games....especially rookies. Hell the almighty Breesus is having one right now, just threw an int in the endzone down six with 4 mins to go....his third of the game and he probably should have five....

There's no need to even be optimistic.

All you need to be is realistic to know that the future is bright for this team. You don't go from the worst in the league to one of the best teams in the league in under a year. People forget that in 2002 we had gut wrenching losses like crazy, similar to this season.

The wins are on their way and they're going to be coming a lot. But this season is all about growing pains.

3rd straight losing season

Its embarrassing. I wonder do Big Cat cares or is embarrassed ?

First straight losing season, and that in a year when both the starting QB and the head coach are rookies.

I never had much hope for this season to begin with, but I have plenty for next year.

(and the year after that, and the year after that, and...)

No doubt I'm optimistic about the future... I meant it's gone for this year. I already knew Cam was going to be an great/elite level pro (IMHO), so I expected that. Problem is, I also expected that to translate to wins instantly but this team isn't ready to win yet, mainly because of the defense.

It's just depressing in that I'm tired of the "next year" mentality. I don't like labeling a season as a "rebuilding" or "development" year when we're so close to winning.

I never had it for this year.

I know week one made everyone think we'd be better, but it was never really that realistic.

Plenty of hope for the future though, and that was all I wanted out of this season.

I think the "next year" mentality stops, oddly enough, next year.

I certainly hope so!

    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
    • 6-10 carries for  35-45 yds and 3-5 catches for 15-25 would be great.
