I had a long debate with a co worker Friday about next years draft and who will be the next game changer...I live in Philly so draft talk is starting to come up more frequently. Lol....I believe that we have some key issues that need to be resolved but trades and free agency is like putting a band aid on a sucking chest wound. We need a number 2 receiver!! smith has been a great player for this franchise and has entertain each and everyone of us for years with mediocre qb play until this year. It's time to compliment the other side of the field. We don't know how Gettis will recover from his injury and legadu(why) lefell need some more time. I believe if we have and opportunity to get justin Blackmon next year we should hop on that train. Imagine putting smith in the slot with Gettis and Blackmon on the sides....!! Wow....this would be the most explosive offense in the NFL...for years...and we would be preserving Steve smith until he retired as a panther.

I like Blackmon but I think we definitely have to draft defensively. You make points about not knowing how Gettis will return from injury and preserving Smith but you can make the same argument for the defense. We don't know how Beason, TD, and Edwards will return from injury and we need to preserve some players on defense also.

I want jeffrey or blackmon, but if the season ended last sunday, we would almost certainly be picking defense in the first round (DT, CB, or LB in my opinion). I'm thinking it really depends on if our defense shows some good progress throughout the remainder of our games. If the coaches can be more confident in our defensive players, then they might draft a good weapon for cam with a high pick.

* you also have to remember that we have a bunch of receivers now (Smith, Ghettis, LaFell, Ajirotutu, Edwards, Pilares, Naanee) most of whom are very young and haven't seen enough playing time to be evaluated very effectively. Receiver just might not be a priority come draft time*

Beason injury in week one was devastating to the defense but beason is a proven player and I feel confident that he will put in the time and energy to get back into football shape to be able to compete at a high level again. I also believe our young DT will eventually fall into flow of the game and be productive. TD unfortunate situation will need to be addressed in the draft. I'm not saying give up on the guy but we could use a speedy olb that can cover the tight ends in our division.

I think DT or CB are the only defensive positions we could rationally spend our 1st round pick on, and there doesn't seem to be a DT yet that's worth a 1st round pick. There's some decent CBs, but if we're picking top 12 I honestly think (and hope) we go for Jeffrey or Blackmon. Our current bloated WR corps is kinda sad. If I had my way, the only WRs we'd keep for next year are Smitty, Gettis, Lafell, Pilares. We haven't seen anything out of Ajirotutu, so I'd be willing to give him a shot but Naanee needs to be cut PRONTO and Armanti just hasn't done anything yet. People like to try to compare him to Smitty, but Smitty always looked like a WR. He didn't look awkward and like he didn't know wtf he was doing on the field. I don't really think Armanti will ever get it. It seems to me anything they think Armanti can turn in to, Pilares has a step ahead.

IMO, we are at the BPA stage in our development, where it comes to the draft. You draft athletic kids you feel fit your core culture. You draft for talent, not needs. The team with the best talent usually wins. Throw in Cam, and you have scary.

I take heart in the fact that Charlotte is now a destination, a hot spot if you will, for FAs. I can see guys lining up to come and play with Cam.

My giddy is overjoyed at how competitive we are. And is absolutely gaga over what the future holds.

Giddyup Cats!!!!!!!!!!!!
