We're Getting Picked

I couldn't disagree more, Forte is a by far a better back at this stage of his career than Turner. Turner is good between the tackles but he lacks the burst that Forte has on the outside runs that he was destroying us on. Forte just put up over 100 yards against a solid Lions run D.

....you're missing the point. Forte ran for 205 yards against the Panthers!!!! Even if Turner isn't as good as Forte, he's still going to ring up at least 100. And that leaves the play action open for Ryan. I just can't see the Panthers winning any games until they can play some defense.

Panthers are 27th against the run allowing 135.2 YPG. A respectable 15th against the pass...although Brees put up 359 last week. Pick your poison, Panthers D can't stop anyone halfway decent.

Hope I'm wrong, really I do. But up the middle on the Panthers D is SUPER weak.

Very hard to pick the Panthers when they cannot get teams off the field on 3rd down.

Very hard.

Its a helluva a lot of pressure on Newton to make up for that ineptness constantly, to feel the pressure to score on every drive.

A lot of money tied up in that defense, albeit a lot of it on IR, to be this inept at stopping 3rd and long.

Tired of the excuses, just 'get er done'.

No Tony Gonzalez, No Julio Jones, underperforming Roddy White, underperfoming Matt Ryan, underperfoming defense.

Easy to say this is an extremely winnable game. We could see 2 different Falcons teams on Sunday:

1. The team we've seen over the past couple weeks (very beatable)

2. A team hungry to get back to the expectations they were given at the beginning of the season (tough to beat)

Basically, it's a toss up to me...

No Tony? I didn't know he was out.

And I hope we go down there and kick some dirty bird ass, just like when Williams went down there and wildcatted us to victory with Weinke on the bench. I was at that game, as well as the game when we had victory within our reach only to watch Vick levitate for yards and beat us late.

I hope the Panthers pull it out but am worried when we go to the dome. I remember a year when we were heavily favored against a crappy Atlanta team that had won only a couple of games that year. Damned if they didn't beat us for one of them.

My brother and father live in Georgia and are big falcon fans. It makes for lively discussions at the holidays. I can't gloat if we win but I really like beating the Falcons. We haven't liked them historically as a team. I wonder if Newton and Johnson growing up there and being fans as kids fuels the fire or lessens the rivalry.

There are two big questions to answer here:

1) Can we contain Michael Turner?

2) Is our offense better than the Falcons?

If you answer yes to both, we win. I think out offense is clearly better, but the Falcons are good at home. JJ out this week helps us a lot, but this game is going to come down to whether or not we will be able to stop Turner from completing 3rd downs and continuing Falcon drives.

White and Gonzalez are listed as probable. Abraham is listed as questionable along with McClure, Reynolds and Sanders. Jones and Owens are listed as out.

Abraham, Owens and Sanders will hurt the Falcons, the same goes for McClure. Reynolds being out might be a good thing for the Falcons as he's been horrible so far this season.
