Aaron Curry about to be traded

ohh nooo i cant believe we didnt get a bust that got benched by the seahawks, ohhhh what will we do??

If you remove the #4 overall pick label from the equation, is better than anything we have at LB now except for Anderson. Our inability to get sideline to sideline b/c of lack of athleticism at the LB spot (again, except for Anderson) has been killing us.

That's why we should've made the move.

While Hurney has gotten some awesome late round gems - Hardy, for one... You probably aren't going to find a LB with Curry's athleticism in the corresponding round that we would give up in a trade. It was worth it IMO.

Who cares? Curry doesn't get us a playoff spot. Why bother wasting the picks?

Thats pretty much the exact deal i said the panthers should have offered, just a 6th this year, with a pick next year possibly based on production. Call me crazy, but if Aaron Curry went to the pro bowl, or ended up with 100 tackles next year, you wouldnt be willing to give up a 6th and 4th for him? I sure as hell would.

very interesting.

would be great to pick him up (restructured, of course) and stephen cooper. LBs need all the help they can get.

I thought I read the Chargers put Cooper on IR, then I read on here the Chargers were releasing him. Just curious what the situation is there?

Greg Hardy is better than Curry and we got him late. In fact, most players are better than Curry. Quit acting like we missed out on a pro-bowler.

I'm not. I'm acting like we missed out on a player that could help us at a position that we're losing players by the day at.

And I already know Hardy is a beast, but we've blown much higher picks on much less. A 7th and a 5th wouldn't be a horrible deal for a guy that could end up being your starter for years to come.

    • Don't look now, but a 3-game win streak, including 2 on the road in back-to-back games. The Canes haven't won 3 straight since the middle of November, over 2 months ago.  Canes held Dallas to 23 SOG, with a lot of those coming in a late game flurry. Canes have had some difficulty keeping SOG down to where we're used to seeing them. The Dallas game was reminiscent of the defense we saw early in the season- standing teams up at the blue line and making zone entry a real pain in the pads.
    • Agreed with a lot of this. Couple thoughts, especially towards the OL/future cap things... First, I hope Bryce is good enough to command being paid a Top 5 QB salary. Great news for us if so. But as of now, I think he'd be in that mid-tier range, so that $60 gets cut to 30-40. Baker to Stafford range. Obviously the cap will go up and $60 might be the new mid-tier, but either way I think we're fine here. He either continues to ascend and gets paid Top 5 money because he's that good and thank God. Or, he shows he's Baker level, gets a competitive offer that's outside the Top 10, and we're "saving" money (but also paying someone who may not be the "guy" in that scenario).  The OL is the biggest thing going forward IMO. You're 100% right here about the need for an OL, paying them, % of the cap, etc. Which is why in the next couple of drafts, we HAVE to absolutely nail a couple OL picks. We can't realistically tie up that much money in our OL. So we better turn into the Cowboys the late 2010s and constantly have a revolving cycle of a couple highly paid pieces, with drafted guys who step up and take their place once we have to move on. One highly paid OT, one highly paid OG, and then find rookie deals or cheaper vets that fit well.  Point being, we're teetering on the edge of a few foundational pieces being here now. IF, and history isn't on our side here, we can nail the next couple of drafts...we're in a good spot when it comes to the cap and future. If we don't find a couple of defensive cornerstones and find reliable OL depth that can take over for Hunt/Moton/Lewis as they age or contracts balloon...that's when we're right back in hell IMO. No pressure, Dan.
