Steelers DL Coach Agrees With Pep

Are you serious carolinarolls? He hasn't requested a trade? WTF is all this 4 teams nonsense then? Has he held a press conference on ESPN to say he wants to be traded? No. But if a bunch of fans on a forum hear about a player wanting to leave this team long before the deal goes down and he's gone, someone screwed up.

Him not signing his franchise tag hasn't hurt the Panthers organization? It's prevented us from directly contacting teams with our own trade scenarios. And not blaming anyone publicly? I said not in so many words, but you can't deny he hasn't done that. If you feel that you are some freakish athlete and the only reason you aren't the first hall of famer still actively playing is because of a system or a scheme, you are pointing the finger at someone else. Period. And you know what they say, you point one finger at me you're pointing three back at yourself.

You act like I am personally hurt by Pep's actions. I could care less. I've made it known that I've been a Pep fan forever, but I'm not unrealistic about how front office football works "I just made this 1000 word essay to show you just how much it doesn't hurt me".... I know there is a VERY HIGH chance that both Beason and Deangelo Williams could be gone just as quickly when their contracts expire. Not every player is gonna be a Minter that stays and plays forever. I personally feel for a Carolina native and team cornerstone, Pep has gone about things the wrong way. That's all.

And as a Panthers fan, I feel 100% that there is not a single team Peppers could go to that is primed to win championships better than ours. It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out like Tiki Barber, where he bitches and moans and the year after he goes the Giants win it all without him. So do I wish him well? Yes. Do I want him to ever get a ring? HELL NO. Because every year he gets a ring, we aren't.

Fixed...

Just funnin' ya man...

You still read at least one paragraph of the essay though. Teacher says I get an F on it. Aside from the mindless, incoherent rambling, the limit was a thousand words and I almost doubled that...:toetap05:

Again I feel your pain but anyone who thought this guy did not hold all the cards from the very beginning was fooling themselves. His "four teams" comment was a warning. It can be read in no other way.

He fulfilled his obligation, he wants to leave, he has expressed it politely and respectfully to the team and fans. I understand that the team may feel like they need to save some face because the underlined motives for his departure do not shed a glowing report on the Panther FO and staff but that is no reason to ignore the fact that this guy owes us NOTHING. It's not about money and we knew as much when he turned down a very generous contract after a very down year for him personally.

What Marty has done looks to be in the best interest of the team's future on the surface when in reality all that is a masking of what amounts to a star player wanting the hell out of a situation that he, after his entire NFL career and after many personal accolades believes is a NO-WIN situation for him. I am sure that irks Marty and co. a bit but hey, sometimes the truth hurts. And even if it isn't really the truth per say, it's what Julius obviously believes.

So why, WHY IN THE HELL would we try to handcuff this guy who already is not the best ambassodor for Carolina as it is when the only upside is the HOPE for a few draft picks that may or may not fall to us like we need them to anyway.

We have issues on this team personnel-wise and these issues are fairly defined in my opinion. We are notoriously a team that drafts best player available. Any scenario that has us scurrying for crumbs during the draft or even worse after the draft and not being able to do a damn thing during the time leading up to the draft except point fingers does not bode well for 2009-10 season. Not to mention we have no idea who to even target at this point and we sure as hell can't scout everybody.

Hurney may not be the worst GM or even a bad GM but this decision to tag and the scenario that we are watching unfold now is nothing short of abysmally deplorable.

You bring up valid points that it has essentially become a pissing contest between all parties involved. He owes us nothing, and I guess that is that. I guess perhaps I'm a little jaded as an avid Oakland A's baseball fan, where they constanlty, year in and year out, ship off top league talent for draft picks. I know building for the future is important, but jesus, hang on to somebody for once Billy Beane. Moneyball sucks! At least the Panthers have a lot of core talent outside of Pep so it's not quite as crucial.

He has never publicly requested a trade

The timing of him saying he wants to try another position has nothing to do with anything

He has done NOTHING to hurt the organization..Hurney did that

He has not blamed anyone for anything publicly

I don't watch anything Tiki Barber is associated with.

He has not called a press conference, blabbed anything to the media other than the "4 teams" bullpoo which was basically a "don't tag me" warning, and he has every right to seek something different after completing his contract. So what if you think he has lost faith in the Panthers. He would know better than any of us and I doubt them all the time.

He has done nothing wrong and anyone on here who disagrees is simply wrong. There are no two ways about that.

I understand you are mad, I'm disappointed too. But we cannot blame this on Peppers. If he had faith in the staff and roster of this team he would stay. He is getting older and in my opinion it will be a tragedy if a player this special does not get a ring. NOBODY can blame him for wanting a change. He has been straight up from the beginning AFTER fulfilling all obligations.

You (or anyone else) hating pep is like you hating some piece of ass after she drops you cold.

immature

So anyone who disagrees with your opinion is wrong....got it.

He did go to the media. He publically stated that he had no intention of returning to the Panthers. That statement alone set all of this in motion. His public statement of this weakened the panthers potential bargaining power with other teams....plain and simple.

I don't blame Peppers for wanting to try something new. That is his right and I have no issue with him leaving. However, I also do not blame the Panthers for saying we will either get value for him or he will have to play for the Panthers. That is what the Franchise Tag was created for.

Like the Franchise Tag or not, it was agreed to by both owners and players alike. They both must live with it.

And, if you disagree with me.....you are wrong.

"have to play for the Panthers"

Ha

like that helps anybody

He has done nothing wrong. Lying to the media and answering that he has EVERY intention on returning to the Panthers doesn't help their position at all. He is doing what anyone is allowed to do in ANY job they ever do. He has a right to market himself and the way you guys are portraying him one would think the guy is calling a presser every other day and is rivaling TO for time in the media. The media is struggling to keep this story alive. Those are the facts.

Some of you are just bitter. If any of you were in his shoes you would do the same thing or maybe more to protect the last few years in the tank you think you have left and make sure they are used trying to realize your dream.

He has done NOTHING wrong.

TO uses the media to his advantage --> diva

Briggs uses the media to his advantage --> whiner

Pep uses the media to his advantage --> athlete protecting his interests

Boldin uses the media to his advantage --> spoiled

One of these is not like the others.

i would have had an agent that knew what he was doing.

i would have been man enough to go to the organization first and let them know my intentions.

i would have chosen to work with the panthers to work out something than work against them. teams are going to be a lot more willing to work with a team for a trade which was the only way the panthers were going to let peppers go.

no way should the panthers have just cut him loose. too valuable an asset to let go. the franchise tag is not something that the organization should have avoided just because the player didn't want to stay. it was within their rights to use it and they used it properly. i would have known this was going to happen and would have avoided any further conflict by working within these parameters.

hurney played this one by the book and worked in the organizations best interest. the organization is the only thing that matters. no player is ever above or too good for his team. the team chose to use the tools at it's disposal to protect it's interest. the franchise tag was appropriate for this instance and was correctly used.

the fact that things are moving so slowly is peppers fault. he is working against the system and will only be hurting himself in the long run.

Looks like the agent is doing just fine. all pep has to do is sign a piece of paper and hios client gets 17 mill, if not his client gets traded to someone his client wants because his client has been advised in a way that he now holds ALL the cards...good agent, no GREAT agent

Who says he didn't?

Who says he didn't?

At the compeltion of contract, he is no longer their property and furthermore *NEWSFLASH* he does not look like nearly as big of an asset to anyone else as he does to us and has all the WRONG baggage

hurney played it by the book when he should have looked outside the box. this thing is blowing up in his, no, our faces and will NOT get better...by the book...where in the hell is there a "how to be a good GM" book in this day of free agency? There's not one.

He is working against a system that worked against him first. WHY IN THE HELL would he give in at this point? And WHO IN THE HELL was stupid enough to not have this foresight?
