Steelers DL Coach Agrees With Pep

Personally, I’m astounded that the Patriots could possibly acquire Peppers for just the 34th pick in the upcoming draft. I’ve never seen anyone more qualified to warrant multiple draft picks including a No. 1.

Mitchell disagrees.

“We have the 32nd pick in the draft,” he says, “and we wouldn’t take him.”

thought this was interesting

one of the few who have said that peppers would benefit from a 3-4. notice didn't say that the steelers would benefit by putting him in there and said that they would sacrifice a 32nd for him. they prefer, like we do, to build through the draft.

mitchell may have a point but he is coming from a 3-4 mind. which is better, coke or pepsi? ford or chevy? rap or metal? capitalism or communism?...it's all about preference. those who prefer the 3-4 will always argue that it is the way to go and those who favor the 4-3 will always argue that the 4-3 is best.

regarding peppers....the article's author alluded to 2007's poor production being a result of peppers getting double teamed. that wasn't the case. he just sucked.

also...peppers was utilized in a good few different ways this year. he had sacks from 4 different positions last year. he wasn't double teamed much (mitchell said he would thrive more because he wouldn't get double teamed as much).

it did say that peppers may just want to be known as an LB instead of a DE. that could be the case. i don't agree, though, that him moving to LB in a 3-4 would make him automatically that much better. he would still have to overcome his motivational and motor issues.

Ok, to all of those out there that think Fox couldn't get everything out of Pep, I have two words that will shatter any and all arguments that you have and they are "Michael Strahan" why is this important, because Strahan broke the NFL sack record with Fox as the DC for the Giants, if Fox can get Strahan to break the NFL sack record you could say that if anything he's one of the most qualified people out there to get the maximum out of Peppers.

And I agree with Buckner on is if Peppers hasn't reached his potential after being in the NFL as long as he has, he has no one to blame but himself.

I'm not saying I agree with the man, just that he is football knowledgable. That's all. I too believe Peppers potential or lack there of is his own doing. I think it's a telltale sign that a team that has won multiple championships in the past 5 years, and places a HUGE emphasis on athletic linebackers, does not want him. I know you build for the future, but the future is now in the NFL too. Steelers D with Pep on it would be brutal for a long time (NFL long time= 4+ years). So it says a lot to me that he would pass on Pep without thinking twice, all the while agreeing with him that a 3-4 would make him "bust out".

Yeah, I thought so too. It makes you wonder how much Pep's stock has fallen because of these antics with he and his agent. I always thought he warranted multiple picks too.

i dont think his stock has fallen at all..i think there are people in are FO that want peppers here and are willing to kill are cap to keep him here..

but as far as reaching his potential you never know..in a 3-4 at his weight and height with his speed.i would not be suprised if he broke the all time sack record if he did not have to cover..

well this guy is a defensive line coach and i assume he's saying he doesent want peppers for his scheme as a lineman and doesent think he'll fit in as a linebacker.. i think alot of 4-3 teams would love to have peppers at his natural position and the fact that he wants to play another position in a different scheme is limiting his value to 3-4 teams hence the rumor of the 34th pick from new england

Coke, Chevy, Metal & Capitolism. Any more questions?

Peppers is an idea, a freak athlete defensive end. Problem is, while actually on the field in games he doesn't live up to his potential and often times is very Average.

anyone that gives up alot for him, is hoping they can make him live up to his potential.

If he was worth what he wants, he would hold a NFL Defensive MVP award by now

    • You and I both know there isn't a coach we could or can still hire that can "fix" Bryce Young. Even at mighty Alabama with one of the best modern coaches in college football history Mac Jones was still a better QB than Bryce Young. Mac Jones.... We already know how you feel about Canales on a personal level so in that regard you wanting him fired is not news. You don't have to disguise it behind this shroud of rabble about not fixing Bryce Young. To his credit he somehow had us competive against the Chiefs and the Eagles on the road with #9. But no coaching staff can overcome their starting QB turning the ball over 4 times. We definitely have developed some of our younger offensive pieces. And as far as Evero goes he has earned criticism and if he's fired so be it but in his defense many of us said in the offseason this defensive roster was a disaster waiting to happen given the resources we spent on the offense while neglecting the defense. That was Dan Morgan's plan. He swung too hard toward offense to salvage the Bryce Young trade. That's on him. We can scream about XL all we want but at least he's actually been on the field for the most part. The Brooks pick was a luxury pick at the time and now it is a Hurney level blunder. Dan Morgan has gotten a lot of early praise here when in reality he's unequivocally deserving of significant criticism. But if you say that some people get up in arms because he's a former Panther. Big whoop. He has just as much to prove this upcoming season as Canales. That's why to me in my own personal opinion I say one more season and then if it's more of the same say goodbye to both.
    • It's a decent vid with compelling reasons for his opinion. But, my thing is is that you simply can't draft McMillan thinking he is a surefire WR1. There are questions. His 40---rightly or wrongly---will play a part. I'd think that his splits (which will speak more to his game translating to the pros in my mind) are more important.  As much as you're trying to sell us that McMillan is a don't-overthink-it-type-of-player, I wouldn't say that's the case. Workouts will play a part in all of this.  At this point, I like the thought of Tetairoa. That's as much as I can give you right now.
