The closest comparison to me is an oversized and more athletic version of John Elway.

A lot of younger fans don't really remember Elway's early years, but John had the ability to make big plays out of nothing, and was very mobile as well. The funny part is, John didn't have near the success in his first few games that Cam is having.

Big Ben. Excellent pocket awareness and ability to extend plays/avoid the pass rush, with a cannon arm that can make all the throws. Cam is a better athlete though.

i would have said freeman before the season but he has played like ass so ben is probably a good example

although ben is much more polished as a passer, and cam is an infinitely better runner

Steve McNair with a much higher ceiling, maybe? I honestly think that Newton is a once in a generation type of player. There isn't a great comparison because his skill set is unique.

based on what we've seen, it's hard to compare him to many others.

Rothlisberger isn't a great comparison, Ben is much slower and Cam has a much better ability to escape pressure having his size yet much quicker. I think Cam is stronger altogether, and that arm is stronger..

Steve McNair may be the closest, but I still think Cam is much quicker.. I really think Cam has an incredible pocket presence that even separates him here.. maybe I'm being a homer, but I've seen some impressive plays in this regard.

Vick... obviously Vick is much more elusive, but Cam is already a better passer than Vick is now.. so glad Vick didn't come to Carolina. I said it last year when Vick looked great, and I'll say it again, Vick sucks. despite him needing an OLine, he still requires 7 step drops to see his receivers and Cam has already proven he is better at recognizing a blitz better than Vick could ever wish. Vick is trash IMO..

Newton has the arm, pocket presence, ability to run, and ability to read a defense that I haven't witnessed from many, or any, rookies... I'm curious how that 2nd year slump goes, but damn, the dude should only improve from here..
