the obvious thing is that we need to address the DL. not surprised that a lot of uneducated fans would blame everything on the QB and think that it is the #1 thing that the panthers need to be doing. 43% of the fan base hates him and most of that has to do with how he played in that last game.

if he didn't have that high a number of turnovers during that game (which wasn't typical at all) the number of people calling for his head would drop in half. QB isn't the strongest point of our game by far but it isn't at all the weakest point.

yup-

If fans ruled the team we would get a new coach/QB every season.

Wonder how people would feel if Jordan Gross had 4-5 games a year when he would give up 4 sacks...or DeAngelo fumbling 4 times....or Peppers getting dominated by back up Tackles...oh wait

Quick, dump Peppers and Delhomme. Anything to keep Panthro happy, doesn't matter whether it helps or hurts we gotta keep the boy happy... :D

Defense is the biggest concern.

TOP Arizona at Carolina

Cards 39:49

Panthers 20:11

Defense is going to have to get used to being on the field for 2/3 of the game. There's probably going to be more of them Delhomme poo the bed games, we're going to need the most refined, disciplined, and conditioned defense to make up for it and prevent the other team from scoring after someone picks off Jake and returns it within their red zone.

I think our one of our biggest concerns was addressed, in the hiring of a new Defensive Coordinator. I think our whole attitude and the philosophy that fed that were suspect last year. Much as I take umbrage at Jake's lack of progress as far as his mechanics thri the years, which has an impact on us, I think the offense showed a lot, especially in the second half of the season, when the D was routinely giving up lots of points and yards.

I don't want to see us get a new QB, I want the ones we have on roster now to compete for the starting job. Reinforce the O line where possible, but use the draft and FA to address the D's needs. I think we could be alright this year. I'm just concerned with our history of never ever having successive playoff contending season.

    • I see 4 winnable games on our schedule left. If we win two of them and Bryce continues his progress, this season is a success.  low expectations? Sure. But I think we’d have enough information to know Bryce is our starting qb next year and we can enter the draft with a high pick knowing what we need to improve.
    • Some of us may forget when Drew Brees “wasn’t” the great QB we faced in New Orleans. Prior to his HOF career, he was an afterthought in Dan Diego that was particularly liked by his coach Marty Schottenheimer.  But we all see how that turned out.  Bryce may never be the 2nd coming of Brees but let’s give him and the staff time to help him reach his potential.
    • Here’s another that we fans should keep in mind: Sometimes greatness takes time. Mahomes had the benefit of sitting a season behind Alex Smith after the Chiefs traded up to take him with the 10th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Young, last year’s top pick, started 16 games as a rookie, going 2-14, absorbing 62 sacks and posting the league’s worst passer rating.
