Negged to Smack?

The Other Colbert

Recommended Posts

I think if it's based off of the number of negative reports but then neg rep is disabled once they are relegated to smack or some other sub forum, then they can earn their way back, I think that system would work great.

It wouldn't be based off of a popularity contest because weighted rep wouldn't matter, just the number of times individual posters have negatively reported a poster.

As far as any problems with the system in the past when it was enabled... Wasn't that system based off of rep power? So a guy with 3000000000000000098 rep could neg you and it would virtually only take 1 or 2 more negs to send you to smack. I think if someone got like 10 negative rep deductions, that would be fair. Trolls would get eliminated quick and dissenting opinions shouldn't suffer.

If people were reporting people just for having a different opinion, that is pathetic. I've been on this board since 2004, and I've used neg rep maybe 5 times total. No more than 10. With almost all of them being on trolls from other teams, with maybe one exception. I've been in heated arguments and debates with fellow huddlers but we both engaged in that, so why would I neg rep them? We're here for discussion and debate.

But, with the overall IQ drop on the board in the last year, I could see how that could be a problem.

Agreed, I think its kind of telling when people don't think Neg to smack works and the rest dont think the Members can be trusted. I have been in arguments plenty of time and never neged someone for it but to tell me to ignore pictures of dudes dicks and posters that cant even make complete sentences is like asking me to go to a bar and ignore the drunk people. I know me and a lot of regular posters most of the time just dont come to the huddle for a few days after a loss so we dont have to deal with it. Still does it really make since to run the good posters away for the sake of being kind to the trolls?

^this!

Example: I see a guy named "NineOhTheRino" out there trolling, his reputation has been negged to the red... but yet he can still spam our threads and not be sent to smack.

This is a perfect example of what concerns me about putting the power in the hands of the mob. This isn't trolling, its having a different opinion. That doesn't mean its a particularly complete or compelling argument either, but is sure as hell doesn't rise to the level of what amounts to a semi-ban.

Who says that there can't be intellectual conversations in smack? ;)

You dudes do know "Killer Cam" has only won 1 game.

lol Your standards are so low that you think Cam is a real NFL QB.lol

sound pretty direct, I think it would be better handled in smack.

The more I look at this guys posts the more I think he is the perfect poster boy for why neg to smack is a bad idea. I mean look over these posts and tell me the dude is a troll:

http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/search.php?searchid=1703541

He is not being an ass, just giving an opposing opinion.

In all honestly, this guy isn't as good of an example. This thread is more about those trolls that come in and are obviously flagrant.

meh...it's weak sauce and it's even weaker minded to think that the reason for that clown coming here was to do anything but troll. he's a falcons fan and he comes in first thing busting on our QB with some of the weakest smack possible. just because it isn't as offensive as that guy that was allowed to post an animated gif with a dude's penis in it (that was reported and was left there telling me that the mods aren't paying attention) doesn't mean that he serves any purpose here. he's only here to troll and to throw out his incredibly weak smack talk. why do we need him around for that? we have a forum for it. why not stick him in it? sure, all we are going to do is point and laugh, but why not enforce the rules? doesn't matter who does it as long as it is being done. right now it isn't being done. what is in place isn't working.

Dimbee has a point... it got to where the posters couldn't be trusted to use neg rep wisely... people were piling on for reasons other than trolling. Negging for a dumb post is one thing... negging when someone just disagrees with you is childish... and it seems that's a common theme on here. I just ignore 85% of what's posted and I'm good... if you can't do that, then idk?

Neg Rep......:D

Power to the Pipples!!

The Huddle is more popular than ever. I guess all these great ideas are coming from the other successful and growing message boards that you have all created and run
getting a little defensive there and overreacting.

many of us have this one complaint about the forums. the rest of it is fine.

i can understand you getting snippy about it, though. the complaint is there because the mods aren't able to keep the forum free from the smack talking trolls that flood the forum from time to time....that is unless you guys really want that in here. you try to keep things free of smack and will send warnings to regular posters for smack talking. you will hand out infractions for it. but when new posters that we all know are troll fans from other teams come in and start doing the same things...it's allowed.

not every fan from another team gets neg repped. many come in respectfully and end up sticking around and contributing. there are those ones who only want to come in and talk smack and disrespect any rules that are in place.

i would think that the admins here would feel good that the regular posters in here want to keep things free of smack talk in the main forum, that we care enough to want to help out. instead, all we get is worthless neg reps from the mods and invitations to leave and start your own damn forum if you don't like it.

thats a great way to maintain a successful business. try to run off the regular customers so that the obvious temporary ones can feel comfortable.
