Overblown: End of Game Time Management

They scored on the next play.

But would they have scored if they realized we were burning timeouts. They could have changed their mentality. You can't just throw in a timeout after the fact and say we would have saved 20 secs considering the Saints could have changed their mindset.

He wasn't thinking. It would have been a closer field goal with the flag but in that situation you just have to let it play out especially considering it would have been rushed.

And you defend him? I for one think the Bears game clock management sucked. He called 2 last drive timeouts during deadballs. We ran out of time. I think he should have challenged a spot once on a key third down.

Rivera needs to get better. You can say, "move on" if you want, but you learn from mistakes. His game management sucks so far. Let's not sugarcoat it.

With the time running off the clock in the first half, why not leave your first team defense on the field anyway? Changing personnel was stupid.

I can't remember seeing a team that's down by 4 points or more trying to kill time in that situation when they are at the 15 yard line. Only when they know they're going to kick a FG for the win or tie. They didn't know if they would score on the first attempt or if they needed all 4 attempts and needed the time as well. The Saint's primary goal is to score a TD, not kill time.

That could be true Pro Bowler. I understand that it being a 4 point game they needed to score a TD and maybe couldn't afford to eat clock. But you could almost see a TD coming with the way our defense was playing. But I guess what I am saying is that calling timeouts wouldn't have made too much of a difference. When you call timeouts you have to commit to and not feel like you wasted one. Saints were moving the ball pretty easily and could have taken their time.

EDIT: I didn't want us to commit to saving time and then the Saint's force us to use 2 or 3 of our timeouts and we are left with 1 timeout with a 1 minute and change to play. It wouldn't have made too much a difference and we'd be forced to work the sidelines more instead of using more of a variety.
