Comments from Rivera's presser, about 14:20 in (link)

I was very pleased with the physical play, and I was very pleased with the scuffle. Because again, as I said, this is our house. You come in here, and you're not gonna shove us around and push us and we're not gonna take it. You know, we're just not gonna take it. And I'm glad we drew the line. I'm glad it happened the way it did. You know, because again people need to know we're not gonna take it. We're gonna hit you back.

Similar moment at around 11:35. Joe Person asks Rivera if he thought Shockey got too emotional during the game.

Rivera said "No. That's him." He went on to say that his emotion and attitude is what he wants to see on his team. Made reference also to Newton having that kind of fire as well.

Pretty clear he's not gonna pull back the reins on anyone being competitive. Just the opposite. He plans to stoke those fires.

Listen, go back to the video to where Smitty throws Jenkins down and then picks him up from his helmet. There are a couple seconds there where you can tell Jenkins is terrified and realizes he made a mistake by getting involved in this.

I guess we saw the same thing.. who in their right mind would f**k with Smitty? everyone knows he has a screw loose out on that field..

as he shouldn't. great message, Rivera.. can't remember the exact conversation, was a long time back, but as I remember it, a few huddlers disagreed with that mentality.. f**k that, come out heated and ready to fight.. this is football.

it shouldn't even have to be explained..
