15 RB rushes

I think Chudzinski saw the one on one and we didn't connect on that one play on 3-2 with 7:46 to go , it was for the kill we would have scored on that drive it would have been a different tune Monday. I don't think our new offense is set to run heavy. It's more vertical attack, I did enjoy the pitch plays and more wildcat this game. Our offense is more exciting than recent years... I am just fug about the defense , SP that block extra point after that fight killed our momentum.. I have notice every week we get a TD called back , awful calls by the refs and Naane Naane.. I mean if he made the catch we had a tide game but not he let's the ball hit the ground... This WR gets all the important balls throw at him still no catches, he does block well that I give him... But C'mon man put glue on your gloves or something Naane...put Seji in then...lol

The Defense is missing key players.. I didn't see beason, Thomas I had a bad feeling sucks it happen again... Hope both the very best... But Connor and the Williams player well just not great but ok.. We still are missing tackles and get in the habit of holding n false starts that shouldn't be happening but those are the minor mental mistakes the beat us over the head...

I think some of this comes down to what Rivera said in the presser today, Chud didn't have enough time leading up to the start of the season to use the RB's to their full potential. That is changing quickly and now it's the overall mix of plays/personnel that is getting dialed in.

As far as the 3rd and 2 in the 4th quarter....I'm not going to second guess that. It was a huge opportunity if they pull it off. Two yards is a mile when a team is on the ropes.

yep... I see all of the close games we've won with this billiant plan of ignoring ToP.

it's not about ignoring ToP. it's about not living under the delusion that controlling the clock is how you win the game.

you want to control the game? you score more points than the other team and your defense keeps the other team out of the end zone. it's that simple. doesn't matter how much time you have the ball. it only matters what points you put on the scoreboard and the points your defense keeps the other team from getting on there.

as far as ToP is concerned, we are 15th. that isn't why we have been losing games and it won't be the reason we win games when we do.

The bigger problem is being up and 4 minutes left to the game our defense lets them go 80 yards and score a touchdown with 50 seconds left.

We cant put everything on the coaching and offense.

The defense has been letting us down time and time again.

amen.
We scored 27 points. Can we stop complaining about the playcalling. That is the least of our concerns at this point.
and amen.

1) we are a pass first team.

2) we were behind. you don't run when you are behind.

3) we are a pass first team.

I think the whole point of this season is developing Cam and the 2 TE passing game, not winning games so much.

Yup, trying to get Cam as much experience as possible, wins are secondary, yesterday proved that on 3 and 2 and we threw it for 20 yards.

The Defense is surely on the hook for the last drive, but the final 6+ minute drive was a terrible position to have a depleted group in there expecting to stop the Saints. The D was chewed up and spent. That's where TOP takes it's toll. It's too bad they couldn't hold them at 3rd and 3 on the NO 18 at the start of the drive. It was the only 3rd down opportunity they had.

You have to include Cam's rushes as attempts. He had 7, so that brings it to 22. The real stat is that N.O. crushed us in time of possession and total plays. They controlled that part of the game for sure. The clock eating comeback drive in the 4th quarter sealed it. We only had one third down opportunity to stop that drive, and they ate 6:16 out of 7:06 remaining.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to control the clock when your O-line gets away with hold after hold.

So, if our weakness is our defense right now, why aren't we grinding the clock with some runs? With how our running game clicked the last two games why aren't we running 25-30 times?

I'm just really confused.

Rivers has made enough comments about Phillip Rivers in SD IMO to make it clear...

They are intentionally putting a load on Cam to speed up his development and the pass ultimately will set up the run as he continues to develop.

What is more important to you in a little brother taking his lump season......Cam developing rapidly or maybe winning 2 more games b/c we leaned on the ground game more? Rivera clearly would prefer Cam developing instead of winning 1-2 additional games.....and I think Rivera is right.

which is why carolina should have ran the ball on 3rd and 2 instead of heaving down field to a double covered steve smith. Extended the drive, score or FG and give the ball back to brees with as little time as possible, down a touchdown, and needing a 2 point conversion to win or OT.

I don't think smith was double covered I think that's they went deep because they were anticipating single coverage and they also got single covereage. Cam saw this got excited and blew it.

That was chknwing's post, not mine, FWIW
