15 RB rushes

On our second to last drive, the one that ended with the 3rd and 2 bomb to Smitty, I thought we started that drive with quite a few run plays. We had the lead at that point, and I thought the coaching staff was running to kill clock and we were showing that we could move the ball with the run...until the pass that ended the drive.

You have to include Cam's rushes as attempts. He had 7, so that brings it to 22. The real stat is that N.O. crushed us in time of possession and total plays. They controlled that part of the game for sure. The clock eating comeback drive in the 4th quarter sealed it. We only had one third down opportunity to stop that drive, and they ate 6:16 out of 7:06 remaining.

which is why carolina should have ran the ball on 3rd and 2 instead of heaving down field to a double covered steve smith. Extended the drive, score or FG and give the ball back to brees with as little time as possible, down a touchdown, and needing a 2 point conversion to win or OT.

1) we are a pass first team.

2) we were behind. you don't run when you are behind.

3) we are a pass first team.

Obviously.

what I question is should we be such a pass first team with the weapons we have. I think it should be a whole lot more balanced.

Also, it's not like we were down 30 points all game. We should have had more than 15 RB rushes with our personell and what was looking like it was working. Maybe they just didn't give us the looks, but I kind of doubt it. I'm thinking that chud has spent all his time with TEs and passing offense, and really doesn't know what to do witht the run game.

forget the idea of RB rushes. as was pointed out, newton is now part of the rushing attack.

also...getting the ball to smith, olsen, and shockey will net you more yards and a greater chance of scoring than getting the ball to williams and stewart.

still, this is a pass first team in a pass first league. you want to wino or at least be competitive, that's what you do.

balance and ToP is overrated. you get the ball down the field as quickly as possible and try to get into the end zone as much as possible. running the ball only delays that. we run to mix it up. when we do run, we will end up being more effective with it b/c of the talent we have and because we have established ourselves as having a respectable and prolific passing game.

yep... I see all of the close games we've won with this billiant plan of ignoring ToP.
