Thought we should move on from the game. We all know that we have some playmakers on offense but let's look at the defense because I believe much like all of you that that is the problem.

1. Charles Johnson - Great DE. He is great for run-stopping and also getting some pressure and sacks. But he has never been great at stripping the ball while getting the sacks and haven't really seen that from him.

Playmaking Ability - 8

2. Greg Hardy - Good DE. He has impressed me more than anyone else save Cam. He's got a high motor and seems to always be near the QB. Has a great burst but once again Ive seen no strips at all from him but it is only his 2nd year. I think he has more future potential than Charles Johnson. But for now:

3. Terrell McClain - Plays like a rook with great potential. If one of our DTs breaks through the line and is going to make a play, McClain is that DT. Shows amazing quickness but does he play like a rookie and try to do too much? Im very high on him but in the future. For now

4. Sione Fua - Another rook who plays like a rook. He seems to be getting better and holding his position more. He will be the unsung hero in the run game. He wont be glamorous and get lots of sacks but he will be the anchor of the run defense if he develops like we hope. For now

5. James Anderson-In right spot but doesn't force turnovers. PA - 6

6. Gamble - Playing amazing just need some INTs. PA - 7

7. Godfrey - Makes a great play of misses a big play. Best chance at getting a TO. PA - 8

8. Martin - Solid starter with potential. Comes up with some INTs. PA - 6

Need more playmakers on defense. Will help when Beason and Davis(hopefully) comes back but they do NOT force lots of turnovers. What do you guys and girls think?

We've had some ridiculous bad luck thus far this season (a lot of it was self-inflicted) but this is a completely different team from last year. We're putting up points and competing to win with the best teams in the league. This is honestly the first time maybe ever as a Panthers fan where I look to the future with the expectation of competing for super bowls. In the past I never had a lot of confidence that we could put up enough points to compete on that level but right now with this QB and this offense I am looking forward to seeing some really impressive wins in the future. I think we finish 8-8 or 7-9 this year and then next year we start to put it together to compete for the NFCS.

I am very excited about this team. We have a great future especially because our offense has completely exceeded by expectations. On defense we really need some guys that can make plays!

I know the future is bright and am looking forward to each and every game. Once we learn how to close (players and coaches) we will be the team nobody wants to face.

When we get Beason, Edwards, and a draft behind our defense again it will truly be nasty. Not only that, we've yet to see how Brandon Hogan will fair.

Thanks for the rep 8192. Now I guess this topic got a lot less posts bc i wasn't bashing the Saints, our coaches, players or talking junk but I never did hear too many opinions.

Sooo lets go to the another question concerning playmakers. What defense position in our defense has the best opportunity to make impact plays (fumbles, sacks, ints)? And do you believe we have the pieces in place at those positions?

seems like you only base playmaking ability on turnovers...

you do realize most turnovers are pretty much based on luck (unlucky tipped balls, hit while pulling ball back, receiver running wrong route, etc)

being in the right position and limiting big plays from the opposition are much more important in the long run.

I do agree that there is more to good defense than just turnovers and that being in the right place is important but I also believe you need two to three dynamic players to make a great defense.

Look at Baltimore. They have the pass rusher in Suggs, the run stopper in Nagalti, the linebacker all over the field in Lewis and the int machine in Reed.

We got the ends. We might have the d tackles but they r young. We got the linebackers when healthy. We don't really got the corners our that amazing safety. IMO

3 (possibly 4 if hogan is good) starting caliber cbs. 2 young but extremely promising safeties (especially godfrey, been an animal this year). a sick DE pair and arguably the best LB corps in the NFL (when healthy obv). We have plenty of playmakers at defense, just need a DT.
