logical people don't judge a rookie QB who took over the 32nd best team in the NFL on just wins and losses.

Cam has been asked to put the team on his back as a rookie which is unheard of.....and Carolina has had a chance to win every game.

Rookies QB have had much better records 5 games in before....they also haven't been asked to do as much or do so many things as well as Newton.

Wins/losses reflect what teams do. If you just want to evaluate a rookie QB and where he stacks up.....you are naive if that is all you want to talk about.

By his logic 2008 Jake > 2008 Brees.

I mean Jake led his team to more wins and the playoffs, Brees didn't.

Although he had a much better defense I'd argue that Big Ben was actually a better game manager his first year in the league than Cam. He's done great so far and I'm not saying there's anything he can't do. But if you guys are happy with Cam and 1-4 that's troubling. These aren't the Baltimore Orioles and you're not looking forward to 2013. This is the NFL and the truth is if Cam can't find a way to win more games for you guys (no not by himself but with the help of a great #1 WR and two stud RBs) the Panthers will go 3-13 and Ron Rivera will be on the street with the team starting at square one again this time next year.

Regarding Rookie of the Year.....

-My opinion:

1. AJ Dalton

2. Cam Newton

3. Mark Ingram

4. Ryan Kerrigan

5. Randall Cobb

And personally, AJ Dalton has the lead by miles, if it wasn't for media bias.

In regards to how good Cam is...

-Take away Steve Smith and the refs bailing him out and it gets even less impressive

-I honestly thought he would throw a little better. He missed several throws and we dropped a few picks. You will find quite a few rookie QB's who throw better already- Andy Daulton principally among them.

His escapability does elevate his game a bit though. He made two unique plays you don't see often- the TD to Smith and the 3rd down conversion at the end of the 3rd that lead to the TD.

All in all, I think he is very good but nowhere near the hype. This game was just a fraction away- better RZ on our part or not as good RZ on their part, the busted TD, the questionable penalites, from being a blowout.

-He's about as good as Roesthlisberger. He'll need a top 2-3 defense to win a championship. Don't see that happening in Carolina soon.

EDIT: I don't seem him as a QB who can direct a complex offense like Brees, Brady and Manning can. That really limits his potential. You only outrun and outmuscle so much. You end up fading towards the end of the season and at the end of games.

-i really wasn't impressed, couldn't read a defense, or deal with pressure, when the refs get off his leg, i don't think we have much to worry about, nothing close to brees, an interception waiting to happen

Roethlisberger has 2 (almost 3) super bowls in 7 years and threw the game winning pass against Arizona. He's also considered a top 5 QB in the league so I'll take a guy who is "only as good as Roethlisberger" any day of the week. Right now we are almost beating every team we've played with a defense that isn't really stopping anyone, and is missing its two best players. If you look at every super bowl team of the last decade or so what team didn't have a top 5-6 defense in the league? Thats what it takes to win on that level so in that respect I agree with him. WHEN we get that defense that ranks in the top 5 we will be an unstoppable team and probably get to a couple SBs with Cam at the helm. Just gotta get a few more playmakers on that side and get some guys healthy.

Second, Cam is being asked to do far more his rookie year than Big Ben was asked to do his. Cam isn't a game manager, he is already far more than that and the main reason this team is even competitive. Cam can't play defense, Cam cant go and stop the run or play corner, or be a gunner on special teams. Do you not get the fact this team is really the same one from last year. You know what the biggest difference is, Cam. Improvement doesn't always translate into wins. Lastly, if you are ignorant enough to think Rivera would be fired after his first year, you literally know nothing about football, just being honest.

and I would agree with that....but Cam isn't being asked to manage a game. Cam is being asked to win every game......that isn't scenario he finds himself in late. They are putting the offense on his back from the sound of the first whistle.

Rivera doesn't have to win games this year.....unrealstic to install a new O, new D, and start a rookie with no offseason....and be expected to win day 1. Given the scenario and how competitive his team has been.......Rivera has done a good job.

Not happy w/ the team being 1-4. Need a D. Need ST. QB isn't the reason we are losing.....the rookie is the reason we have had a shot. Goes back to the team sport concept.

Ihe threw an 8 yard sideline route completion from his own 41 yard line with 11 seconds on the clock to end the game today (??). Brees would have never done that.

Except when he's trying to break Dan Marino's single season passing yard record.
