Stats have a way to be entirely misleading. Scott Shanle is hands down the Saints worst LB, yet they somehow have some positive rating for him. Jonathan Casillas is also very solid in pass coverage since he is fast. He's made some plays in that area already. Despite individual efforts, Saints are still ranked 9th against the run after 4 games and even was able to shut down Matt Forte and MJD.

How do they even calculate their + and - numbers anyway?

they dvr games and watch every snap

theyre basically a bunch of basement dwelling turbonerds who try to take a game with too many variables and turn into something that can be figured out mathematically/analytically, like sabremetrics in baseball... which has almost no variables which is why it works. not so for football.
