Since Smith and Newton aren't leading the stats in their respective areas, they could surpass the old marks and still not hold the record since Brady and Welker are way ahead. So until they are actually leading their categories, this discussion is actually useless.

With the Patriots playing the Jets, I say Smitty takes over the number one spot from Welker this week.

Hmmm... since Welker plays the slot he doesn't normally go against a teams best CB does he? Or double coverage very often either. Could be wrong though.

My mouth is watering thinking about the prospects of Smitty turning into just a slot WR like Proehl was in a few years when he's older and can't stretch the field like he use to. He would be an absolute monster in that role. Hell, he's great now when he moves into the slot from time to time.

Didn't he actually say in an interview that he would like to make the move to a slot WR eventually? A lot of people make a big fuss about him being 32, but that's not really THAT old, especially when you consider how good of shape Smitty is in and how good of shape he's always been in. He can easily play till 36 or 37 and it's not like he's going to slow down to the pace of a turtle.

Boy do we struggle at finding more WRs though. It seems like Moose and Smitty are the only WRs we've ever been able to rely on for a long period of time and could always count on. I think in next years draft WR has got to be the priority in the 1st round. Of course it will all depend on who falls to us and we could go another direction.

Say what you want, but those Rice and Marino records stand out. Can you tell me the 95 win/loss record of the 49ers? How about the win/loss record of the 84 Dolphins? There's no way in hell you can off the top of your head. Moral of the story: records are cool.

If Cam can average 309 passing yards a game from here on out and Smith Can average 110 yards receiving a game from here on out they will both break significant single season records.

Jerry Rice's single season record of receiving yards:1848

Dan Marino's single season passing yards:5,084

Right now cam is averaging 346.5 per game and

Smith is averaging 132.5 a game

Of course Brady and Welker are ahead of both of them right now but still pretty damn impressive.

Cam is also on pace to beat the current record of 12 rushing TDs in a season by a QB.

Smith is ahead of Rice through 4 games by 8 yards but Rice has a 289 day late in the year. Smith should be on track easily through midseason.
