What the Taints fans are saying...

That is not a Saints board. It is an LSU board. Go to saintsreport.com for a real Saints board and adult conversation about the NFL.

I'm on Saints Report because I like to see what opposing fans think. The posters over there are just as retarded for the most part.

Taking a look at the Carolina Panthers

I figure these stats are a little more relevant since we've already faced 3 common opponents (GB, Chi, and Jags).

Cam Newton, QB:

Tot Yards: 1386 (3rd)

YPA: 8.5 (t-4th)

Comp%: 59.5 (21st)

TD's: 5 Passing, 4 Rushing

INT's: 5

40+ Yard Passes: 4

20+ Yard Passes: 25

QB Rating: 84.5 (16th)

Rushing Yards: 133 (4.0ypa)

Steve Smith, WR:

Rec Yards: 530 (2nd)

Rec YPA: 22.1 (1st) (wow!)

TD's: 2

40+ Yards: 3

20+ Yards: 12

Greg Olsen, TE:

Rec Yards: 219 (9th among TE's)

Touch Downs: 2

DeAngelo Williams, RB:

Tot Yards: 143

YPA: 3.9

TD's: 0

Jonathan Stewart, RB:

Tot Yards: 142

YPA: 4.6

TD's: 0

DEFENSE:

YPA: 346 (14th)

Points Per Game: 25.5 (25th)

Rushing D: 148ypg (31st)

Passing D: 203 ypg (6th)

Yeah, so basically, we can run all over the Panthers. My how the John Fox days have changed. They have 2 rookies at DT, and they are very soft of there. Not to mention their 2 starting LB's our for the season. Their Passing D looks solid on paper, but I think it can be exploited. They gave Aaron Rodgers an rough time for a little while, but he eventually torched them. I think we need to feed our RB's the ball in this game. Drew shouldn't have to throw it more than 30 times.

Cam Newton will present some problems, I predict he will run for a TD, and Steve Smith will probably catch another one. But he wont be able to keep up with Drew, and I think our defense will come up with a pick or 2. DeAngelo and Stewart should be able to be handled, but we need to make sure they dont get loose.

bracket steve smith, and put a spy on Cam (probably Casillas). they can complete some passes to Olsen, that's fine, he won't beat us by himself.

Still confused why their running game is pretty non-existent.

I am actually confident in our Defense for this game. Cam has been in the league just long enough to think he knows what an NFL Defense looks like. But with Williams calling plays and the versatility that he has built into our D, not only will he get pressure from guys he is not used to but might also find guys dropping into spots in coverage he is not expecting.

I don't agree with this

1st we don't have a bad Oline so getting pressure won't be as easy as you think.

2nd Is Williams as a DC way better then Capers and Lovie because they are pretty good to and couldn't rattle Cam?

3rd the best chance of stopping our offense is getting pressure with your front 4 and playing more coverage. So far blitzing Cam only leads to big plays for us.

As mentioned on page 1, Using Casillas as a spy on Newton could work. He is maybe even a little faster than Jordan, and can probably get him on the ground.

I want Rogers to lay on him a couple of times too.

I've seen about 10 guys put a hand on this kid, and still can't get him on the ground unbelievable

People need to watch the game. Carolina actually played a decent game against Chi. Ya, I think we'll win, but too many people are basing their views on Carolina on nothing but highlights and stats. Williams and Stewart had some nice runs, and Cam is much better than many people think. Underestimating your opponent is never a good thing.

He can have flim but we have flim to on your defense. The problem comes with the player you have. We have mismatches against alot of defense now. Our TE's, RB, oline, and Steve smith are some nice weapons to have and now we have a QB that can get them the ball.

Like I said in another thread the saints will win this game because our defense and special teams suck now. So we can't beat you in a shootout which in my opinion will happen.

I watched the replay of the Panthers/Bears game on NFLN last night and agree with this. Here's what I saw - Carolina likes to go 4-5 wide but will also run out of that formation, Newton is playing well for a rookie in a wide open Offense, but Carolina's Defense and ST are just plain awful. The Panthers Offense is dangerous - they can make big plays with the run and pass.

The Saints must do the following to win -

Start fast. They can't let the Panthers hang around. Be methodical - mix the run and pass for long drives.

Limit the turnovers. I say it every week - if the Saints keep the TO ratio even (or +) then they will win the game despite what the other team does.

Score TDs instead of FGs. The Panthers aren't the Jags. The Saints won't win this one by kicking FGs in the red zone. They must make the most of their trips into the redzone.

Take advantage of the Panthers poor ST. The team needs a big game out of Darren Sproles.

Limit the damage done on big plays. The Panthers are a big play Offense. All or nothing. The Saints must prevent those big plays from becoming quick TDs.

Keep up the defensive red zone efficiency. The Saints D has been good in the red zone.

Throw multiple looks at Newton. Never let him get comfortable. Make him rush his throws, force him into mistakes. Gregg Williams is the master of this and hopefully will get into Newton's head early.

Good stuff. I like to read the opposing team's forum every week and i have registered at most of them.

I think i stated it already but the biggest homers so far have be the Cardinals. Green Bay came across as pretty polite. Jacksonville as sad losers.

Most of the New Orleans comments have been pretty decent compared to what i was expecting.

How can the Panthers beat us?

I have not studied the Panthers all that much and I was wondering what are some things that they can do that could beat us and what do you believe is the percentage of that happening? Without having studied them all that much, it seems to me that we will absolutely tear them apart with our Offense! Our Defense isnt terrible like a lot of people have been saying either! I'd say with the top offense and a middle of the pack D we should destroy them!

They can't.

/thread.

They could tell the Saints the game was moved to 3:30

Only way the Panthers win is if they get some returns for TDs on special teams and some freak bounces and pick sixes on defense.

is this one of yall

I don't think we can beat you because we are in such bad shape on defense and specialteams.

But I will say that we had 4 turnovers against the packers and lead the game until the middle of the 3rd qrt and were 5 yards from taking the lead again with 5min left in the 4th.

Our offense keeps us in games.

They were about 10 yards away from beating the Saints in New Orleans last year with Jimmy Clausen at quarterback... anything is possible in this league.

Brees hit by a bolt of lightning, missing the second half while his body absorbs the energy. Jimmy Graham is made angry, Hulks out and goes on a violent rampage, also missing 2nd half. Jenkins and Vilma are called to the JLA headquarters at half time to stop an oncoming meteor.

If Cam Newton plays well after that, they MIGHT have a shot at a last second field goal. In which case John Kasay would have to rip off his Saints jersey, revealing a Panthers jersey underneath, proclaim his time here a ruse, and kick the game winner.

That's the only plausible scenario I can think of anyway.

The Panthers best chance would be a shootout. Cam's the real deal and his arm has kept them in most of their games. Therefore look for the Saints to run, run, run, and continue to hit Graham for another big game by our budding star TE. The Bears were able to run all over them....the Saints should copy that game plan, Imho.

If they get the run game going well with Williams AND Stewart to control the clock, and Olsen shows up wearing his big boy pants..they could cause us trouble. Newton likes to throw deep, but I don't think that'll be there for him, because I think we'll smother Steve Smith, play the run and give him Olsen and whoever they line up at #2 until he proves he can hurt us with them.

Any given Sunday. I'm sure Shockey is helping them gameplan as much as he can.
