A Big Reason Behind Defense Issues

Point being, typically the potent offenses lack on defense to some degree. If we are going to be a passing team, our defense is going to be on the field a lot. Field goals and long drives that peter out isn't going to cut it. Out of nessecity, 30+ points will be the norm to win games, dictated by the offensive mantra.

Most of the holes are things we all knew ahead of time, yet were not properly addressed in the offseason. DT and CB in particular were both obvious holes and discussed to death. How we went from using the 2nd lowest amount of capspace to the 3rd highest and barely touched these positions is beyond me.

We addressed DT then Edwards got hurt..CBs I can only assume were demanding too much to be worthy of upgrading over Munnerlyn, plus Butler looked good to me yesterday.

That will happen when you overpay a RB.

The Bears offense that ran over us...

RB Matt Forte - 2nd round pick

C Roberto Garza - 4th round pick

G Lance Louis - 7th round pick

T J'Marcus Webb - 7th round pick

T Frank Omiyale - 5th round pick

WR Johnny Knox - 5th round pick

FB Tyler Clutts - undrafted

The Bears do have a few first rounders on offense, but the only one that's actually one of their own selections is G Chris Williams, and he missed a good portion of the game with an injury. The others are Roy Williams - on his third team and considered by many to be a bust - and Jay Cutler, who was traded from the Broncos and has generally underachieved since.

Not a single first round pick on the field vs. the Bears ( w/ Gamble out). Lack of talent, plain and simple. Our offense is loaded with first round Picks.[/

Our D plays good 80% of the snaps, then 20% somebody is caught out of position and we miss tackles. We have been killed by big plays not by teams chipping away IMO

G Lance Louis - 7th round pick (played in relief)

The others include former Seahawk G Chris Spencer, who missed a good portion of the game with an injury; WR Roy Williams, who's on his third team and considered by many to be a bust; and Jay Cutler, who was traded from the Broncos and has generally underachieved since.

The guy who actually did the most damage to us: RB Matt Forte - 2nd round pick

Not sure of the actual percentage, but let say it is 20% that we get caught with our pants down, Rivera says it's due to one player not following their assignment. In just about every interview I've heard him talk about the break downs he states that this defense is all about individual accountability rather than a collective group effort and when a single player fails to execute thier assignment, it makes the entire defense look bad.

We are currently 8th in TOP. Surprised me too.

I think we should address the defense with our first pick, however, not because of this thread. Our biggest need just happens to be DT. Ranking 31st in the run shows that we need to get a beast NT. Fua/McClain just isn't getting the job done. I think our CB position is close, but I really like what I see from Munny and Butler, so I put that position on the back burner for now.. considering we don't know what we have yet in Hogan as well.

they're just young, but if we did get a monster in the middle that would be great, i just want a great rotation going.

Speaking of which, why the hell was Selvie going in instead of Norwood, Selvie didn't impress me at all.

If Beason and Davis don't make full recoveries, we may end up picking the best available out of linebacker/dt. Probably depends on how their replacements perform for the rest of the season.
