Cam Newton vs Andrew Luck - Now who would you choose?

I swear, as much as you talk up Cam we should be 4-0 & headed to a 19-0 Super Bowl Champion finish.

Cam Newton is playing very well. He could go on to have a HOF career, but he very well could bust. Nobody knows. Same with Andrew Luck. There has never been a can't miss sure thing in any sport & never will be.

Actually squid you go away. You're an idiot if you think this way. There are lots of examples of players who lived up to their hype.

No way the Colts keep Manning and draft Luck. Too much $$$ tied up in the QB position. Luck will go to a team where he will have to be the man from day one.

Don't forget there is now a Rookie Salary Cap.

On top of everything else Cam is doing for us, he's guaranteed about $30mil less than his predecessor (#1 pick) Sam Bradford is getting. Sucks to be the Rams!

And after the numbers Newton is putting up it will put even more pressure on him to perform right away. Cam is really putting the old notion that rookies can't start and perform well to bed. He will be the measuring stick for every rookie coming down the road.

Short of injury how exactly would he bust?? He will have poor games and likely won't average 350 yards per game the rest of the year(lets hope the running game continues to improve), but he isn't going to bust. Guys who bust either lack the physical skills, toughness to handle the pressure of quarterback (head case), or lack of work ethic. Newton has none of those problems. You don't set rookie records, show the leadership he does and work off your tail and then bust unless something traumatic occurs. And who would wish that on anyone?

Seems to me that Cam detractors are slowly running out of criticisms. I guess the "he might be a bust " one will be one of the last to be debunked. We can wait, and in the meantime, enjoy how great thinngs are turning out. Too bad you won't allow yourself to join us.

not sure. andrew luck is kinda like aaron rodgers but with a tad weaker arm and peyton manning's brain. he's an amazing prospect and i would have chosen him over cam in the draft.

cam has amazed in his four games so far despite the lockout though, so... *shrug*

quite indifferent. i'm still going to hold a grudge againt luck though for not declaring and hope that he sucks.

Really? The guy has played four, FOUR, games. After the first few weeks of the '98 season people were saying Indy should've taken Leaf.

Ryan Leaf's first 4 games...

16 for 31 with a 54.8 rating

13 for 24 with a 78.3 rating

1 for 15 with a 0.0 rating

15 for 34 with a 22.9 rating

In those 4 games, Leaf threw 1 TD and 8 INT's

For the season, Leaf threw for 1289 yds, with 2 TD's and 15 INT's

Cam has already thrown for more yards in 4 games than Leaf did in 10.

Please don't mention these 2 in the same breath.

First off, i think people under rate Luck's playmaking ability. People assume he cant move, but he can, is he as fast as Locker, no. is he as mobile as Newton, no, but he can move, i agree his arm isnt as strong, but he's more accurate than both.
I don't really want to discuss what other people think, but like I said the singular trait I like about Luck as a prospect is his playmaking.

But, I think Newton and Locker were better playmakers.

I agree that Luck is more accurate but not by a wide margin.

i think people love both the pro-readiness, the accuracy and power (he does have a strong arm) and of course his mind. comparing Clausen to Luck is bad because Clausen wasnt ready to start, i think alot of that has to do with his mind, he seems to just quarterback with talent like Russell tried.
Many people place a high emphasis on being 'pro-ready' but I think its one of the most short lived advantages a prospect can have.

For me coachability would be more important then 'pro-ready' but again I would never consider coachability in an evaluation because there is no way I would know about that without relying on hersey.

I evaluate only what I can see with my eyes therefore I would have no idea about Luck's 'mind'.

Luck does have a strong arm but Newton and Locker have elite arm strength.

Re:Clausen

I was making a specific comparison about 'pro-readiness' only.

And Clausen was considered the most 'pro-ready' prospect at the time.

As for having Locker rated ahead of Luck, i cant say that until i see him play, but i think Luck is better.
You haven't seen Locker play? Even in college?

Well, think Cam Newton but a little shorter.

Newton now, that's another story, as of now, i think he's (Newton) a better pro, but if i had to choose without seeing Newton now, i would still choose Luck
I respect your honesty.

I still don't see how Luck would grade out ahead of Newton/Locker.

But, I guess everyone judges QBs differently.

I think the areas where Luck excells are coachable/team dependent.

I place a premium on skills that cannot be coached and are not team dependent.

If you want to see my ranking for last year QB crop let me know.

I ranked them on a scale of 1-5 in the following categories:

Accuracy/Arm strength/Athleticism-Escapability/Dropback-Footwork/Experience/Playmaking/Production-Efficiency/Size/Throwing motion

I'm not dead certain it'll take till next season for that to happen.

Granted, that's the most logical time frame, but he's progressing pretty well, better than most would have expected. Still gotta work out some kinks and try to make sure he drops some bad habits, but significant progress this season is a legitimate possibility.

I agree. I thi k he will improve next year but by year 3 or 4 he could very well be the best player in the NFL.
