If Rivera can find a way to nullify Drew Brees the way he did Peyton Manning back in SD, it'll make winning that game a lot more possible.

I agree. Peyton's biggest problem is the 3-4. He struggles against the Pats of old, SD, and the Steelers. For some reason he just can't quite figure out the 3-4 as well as he does the 43. That was the big reason for Wade in Houston.

Brees on the other hand makes his living on the 43, hopefully we can keep him contained.

Same Style (zone blitz) but different alignment.

On the flipside, Newton did okay against the 3-4 schemes he faced. Had more trouble in his first outing against a Cover Two, but looked better on the second try. Good sign, in my opinion.

Going against a 3-4 pretty much always befuddled the Fox coached teams. It'd be nice to not have that be true anymore.

Honestly, I'm very proud of Newton so far this year. Much more poise and leadership than I was expecting. If he gets just a bit better on the accuracy front...look out.

Our run defense is ranked 31st.. our pass defense is ranked #6. I think we matchup well with the Saints.. I think we can slow down Brees. This game is very winnable. We just can't shoot ourselves in the foot.

The Eagles are ranked #11 Pass Defense and #30 Run Defense.

Coincidence? Or Scheme?

Only problem with this is Ingram... Ingram is not Reggie Bush. He may give us the same trouble Forte did.

I'd agree.

The game will "slow down" for him eventually, and that may help the accuracy issues as well.

To be honest, he's not that far off target now. Just a hair too far away on some throws. The majority are still catchable.

As the saying goes, that's why they practice.

I'd add one thing to this (rather than starting a new thread).

Much as the result might annoy me, I don't really blame Tillman for flopping. Trying to draw penalties is part of the game. Lord knows some of our own have pulled similar stunts more than once (Jake Delhomme did some flops that were worthy of a World Cup soccer player).

So yeah, it sucks, but it happens. Somewhere down the road we might benefit from it ourselves.

Holy crap someone is worse against the run than the Panthers?

Going by total yards, the Rams (144 more yards given up through four games). For the record, number 30 is the Eagles (17 fewer yards given up than us).

Best in the league against the run so far? Dallas, followed by Green Bay and Baltimore.

Anyone else notice the pass protection on the long throw to Smitty down to the 1?

Wharton actually pulled from his LG position over to Pep at his LE position to pass protect. I know it was a play action play, but I found it interesting that Wharton's assignment would be to pick up the LE on a passing play.

When people think about OCs, they tend to look strictly at playcalling, but play design is a very big part of their job.

In that particular area, Chudzinski has Davidson beat by a mile.

      Start with Bryce, this is like his rookie year. The 1st 2 games proved her was wired wrong and it looks like (we hope) he needed a time out to reset and be the player that was drafted. He's still about a year or more away from being a top 15 QB, if the Panther give him another playmaker or 2 (a top WR and a decent TE) and maintain that line. Canales deserves credit as playing that card correctly to motivate (or refocus) his QB for one last shot to decide his and the Panthers immediate future. As a Panther fans we should hope he keeps improving as we invested so much to get him. CJ Stroud will never have a season like he had, even if he stays a top 10 QB. He's got great character so I'm rooting for Bryce to continue on his positive journey. Canales is playing the week to week thing with bryce perfectly. Nothings guaranteed, earn it weekly which builds consistency and consistency is greatness.  Keep the O-line. They've got to extend Brady C, along with Mayes that have a real good 7. Great job Morgan starting with the big guys upfront.  I really hope they draft a DE or OLB in the 1st round. Getting Brown back with A Robinson and what DJ has shown that we can have a decent D-line. Need a CB in the early rounds/ or a time FA to go with Horn.  The future as to next year being good enough to challenge for the division is within reach. Just show progress (win or lose) every week. Kudos to Dan Morgan. Plays GM like a LB. Tackle the problem and move on, don't just hope it works out. Find guys with your playing mentality and work closely with your HC to share a vision. Teamwork starts at the top and flows down.
