Will say it again, its gonna take another offseason.

No way we are going to get where we want to in one offseason, plus a new coaching staff. It would be honestly in our best interest to draft in the top 10 again this year, we need severe upgrades.

Note to Hurney: Pull your head out of your ass, NONE of the DT's you have on this roster are worth a roll of toilet paper combined. BOTH starters need to be replaced. LB's are not that good, time to re evaluate that position as well. Beason is NEVER going to be 100% of what he was, time to keep that in consideration going forward as well.

I hope Rivera takes in a list to JR and tells him we need to cut some cats and do some serious upgrades if you want to win this next offseason. The needs are clear, get it done.

.

I'll let the two NFL defensive coordinators the team hired make those determinations after the season. It's pretty pointless to make decisions about who will be what at this point.

I agree in a general sense. We're not where we need to be right now and won't be until next year, after another draft and a FULL preseason with OTAs and whatnot.

But honestly, we've seen this out of our defense before. Slow start, and they become great around midseason. It has happened before. Also, again, this is a high risk, high reward defense, so big plays are going to happen. Our DL is weak, but young. We do need a solid veteran who can at least hold up a gap or two at DT, just to give our LBs a chance. Most of those big runs were due to the fact that they were able to match-up man-to-man along our front 7 and still have a guy picking up Godfrey at the second level to spring Forte (I know it happened at least once). Opposing OLs don't have to respect either of our DTs with a double team EVERY play, which makes our run D struggle. The best we can do is run blitz and force them to throw, then get pressure/confuse the QB with coverages.

Our LBs are FINE dude. As good as Beason and Davis? No. But who's second-string LBs are as good as the two perennial pro-bowl starters? They can get the job done. But not when guards and tackles are allowed to easily get to the second level to block them EVERY play.

We'll be fine this year, and we can still break even, IMO. We're right on the brink. Honestly, we'd be a serious playoff contender right now were it not for the little mistakes (penalties, ST, etc).

I think McClain will be a solid starter at DT for us going forward. Not so sure on Fua.

At LB, Beason will be fine. Even if he's not 100% of what he was, 90% Beason is still better than 95% of the options we'd have to replace him. We just need to find a replacement for Davis on the weakside and we're good there.

I'm beginning to think WR could be our biggest need. Smith is getting older and next year is a contract year for him. Imagine our offense without Smitty... even if Gettis comes back and plays well, we still need to replace Smith for the long-term with a true elite WR.

What the heck are you talking about? It was an achilles, not a herniated disk..

This isn't 1978. Medical science has progressed greatly. To expect anything less than the Beason we've had, except a more determined one, is nonsense.

why wouldn't beason come back 100%... I'm confused where you get this. Our current LBs aren't good enough to shed the block and make the play. DT's are the big problem.

Bull poo. Pure and absolute, uninformed, uneducated bull poo. It is pretty much the death knell of athletes regardless of medical advances. Have athletes come back, sure but no where near what they were.

    • Tua has maybe 2 passes further than 5 yards.
    • I'd give the rookie WR's more credit than that. Bryce did actually earn most his yards against the Chiefs, but that Saints game was all rookie WR's yac. It was probably like 80ish of the 170 total passing yards were yac by JT and Coker. The throws have been accurate though and he's obviously playing with more confidence. I still want to see something over 40 yards in the air at some point that looks good/accurate
    • We’ll agree to disagree.  Maybe change my wording to better roster would have been more accurate. Gamecocks have some nice defensive players….but they are also thinner than Clemson all around.  it’s at Clemson.  Dabo.  Better overall roster.  And they are favored slightly….which essentially supports my prior post that either could win but if you had to pick without a dog in the race Clemson is the smarter pick.   straight up vs Carolina? I trust Clemson’s O more than Carolina’s.    Top 10 vs top 60 with the QB edge.  And Clemson’s D has some real studs on it too.   Which is what Vegas says.   I’ll make my pick game day.  Will depend on who can and can’t suit up for Clemson.  Carolina has been much healthier this year.  But ST could be the difference.  That Louisville game exposed some massive flaws in their kick game.  You don’t really want ST weakness showing itself vs Beamer
