I have to wonder why the Panthers refuse to utilize their running game more

So from that, I gather that you think we didn't try and win the game but just threw the ball to teach Newton how to play against a cover 2. That we want to inflate stats but that we are not doing what we apparently do best which is run the ball.

Is that your position??

Did you read what you quoted?

My position is the Panthers should have run the ball more and called smarter plays in the redzone ALL SEASON, not just today. Today was just another example of it.

I didn't say squat about Cam Newton's irrelevant "stats". I said the only reason why they keep throwing pass after pass to the endzone as if you can't throw it shorter than the endzone and accelerate towards the endzone for a TD like most redzone TD passes usually are, is because those are the only passes this season that haven't come easy to Cam.

That doesn't mean they don't "want to win", like I said in what you quoted.:yikes:

I don't get the big deal. We ran for 178 yards this week counting Newton which is a season high. And we added another 378 yards passing the ball. Seriously people, there is no problem with our offense other than the pick 6. Special teams and run defense lost this game. When you run for almost 200 yards in a game how is that underutilizing the run game.

I wasn't too concerned when our Passing game was the only aspect working...but we were doing really well. I guess we have to remember this isn't John Fox's Panthers anymore.

Look, those cute little catchphrases like "this isn't Foxball, blah, blah, blah" don't mean anything. Maybe popular culture has fooled many of you into believe that everything is about a name, a star player, a brand...but it's not. The good teams don't win because of the name of the coach or the QB. They win because they have a system that works and they execute it well.

The Patriots would KILL to have both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart in the backfield, and you know what...they'd utilize them and they'd still win ball games, and you know why?

Because good teams also play smart. They make the right call, and the right call is using what works when you need to because you can.

The Panthers are 1-3, because they made the wrong call over and over again. You have a horse like Jonathan Stewart in goal line situations, and you don't run him ONCE today down there, or against Green Bay?

This is not smart play. Cam got you down the field. He doesn't need to "prove" anything else. You need a TD, and you have backs who can get it for you.

The big deal is the 14 points you left on the field in the redzone.

Maybe those 14 points don't matter to you as long as you're entertained, or your boy puts up big numbers, but this isn't about one player.

Cam is pissed right now, as are most of the guys in the locker room. These guys all want to win, and they know they've blown 3 games they should have won, because they know that since they should've won them, the teams they lost to are no better than they are on the field, regardless of the records.

My concern is losing players if they don't start winning. They don't give a crap about out good Cam looks. They want to win. And the backs want carries, and regardless of what you think, they've shown that they can get the job done and if they don't start getting opportunities, it could cause problems down the road. If this keeps up, you can count on Stewart not resigning here.

I'm far more worried about stopping the run.

We gave up 200+ yards on the ground while putting up 500 on offense.

Run D, ST's and RZ O our what we need to fix.

The absence of Beason and Davis reared its ugly head today. If teams continue to get around the corners and set the edge, we miss those outstanding LB's to kill the play.

Cam nearly threw for 50 times today. Compared to less than 20 runs (When the runs were actually more effective than our throwing)

That is a very big deal.

I asked you for clarification and you did. Little of what you said in the above post is what you said that I asked you about.

But in examining you response, I don't see why in the world they would do as you suggest.

I just can't agree that Chud would purposely make Newton throw passes that are difficult for him to throw and therefore have a lower probability for success. I doubt that any coach or coordinator in their right mind would use a game to practice low percentage high difficulty plays rather than high probability low difficulty passes that they installed in the gameplan and have been working on all week. You teach and practice during the week. Sunday is the opportunity to demonstrate what you have practiced and gameplanned all week.

No one would do what you suggest. Especially with Rivera wanting this game as much as he did.

What I see for example are penalties and other issues submarining our efforts like a blocked kick

Balance in the number of runs and throws is related to what the defense was giving us and what they were trying to protect. Our run game worked because our deep passing game put Urlacher and the safeties deeper. If we had tried to run another 15 to 20 plays the defense would have packed it in more and we would not have been so successful. We ran well because the passing game was so prolific. They are intertwined. So the runs were not more effective, they were effective because of the passing game not in spite of it. Because we could run the play action pass was avaiable down the field.

This idea that we need to run as many times as we pass is so incongruent with modern offenses.and current popular thought.

First of all there is no guarantee that we would gathered those points running versus passing.

Secondly we did run in 2 TDs today.

Third the Shockey penalty that took 7 points off the board, the blocked field goal, and the short field goal (now we know why Rivera won't let Mare take a shot beyond 50) took another 13 points off the board. For that matter poor special teams gave them 14 points plus the one we got blocked was a swing of 17 points all that would have won the game for the Panthers.

No one will put this loss on Newton or the passing game. He was not the issue. For his part Stewart has accounted for 315 yards of offense through 4 games which is averaging almost 80 yards a game. I dooubt he is real unhappy right now. I bet he doesn't care if he breaks out on a big run or has a big screen pass. The result is the same.

I don't get the negativity. Sure we are 1-3 but anyone who looked at the schedule and expected anything better needs to share whatever great drugs they are on.
