I hope Cam has a "QB guru" like Tom Brady does

Recommended Posts

As good as Cam already is, I want to see him work with the very best QB coaches and gurus in the world .... year in and year out ... like Tom Brady does. Tom is a perfectionist. I hope Cam wants to be a Hall of Famer like Brady. I'm sure he does.

Personally, I'd like to see what "MAXING OUT CAM'S NFL TALENT" looks like. He might really look like Superman out there before long. Scary good. Never know. :D

Cam is going to have to pay the price to get there. That means many long days watching game film and working on the little things ALL THE TIME. That's what Brady and Peyton do. They are very hard working ... always trying to improve their already good QB skills ... whether they think they NEED to do it or not.

Cam pretty much needs to have most of his year planned out where he's working with QB coaches on all sorts of things. All the little things that you need to RE-LEARN in order to make them automatic so he doesn't have to consciously think about them all the time.

"Patriots QB Tom Brady gets better and better with a little help from quarterback guru Tom Martinez"

http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-01-14/sports/27087344_1_patriots-quarterback-tom-brady-deion-branch-bill-belichick

"Each time, Martinez identifies what Brady MIGHT BE GETTING LAZY WITH MECHANICALLY, TWEAKS HIM and watches him return in better form the next outing."

"Over the course of time I think he's improved in a lot of areas because he's continued to work on them and work on all the little things," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said of Brady. "And that's not saying they were deficient to begin with; Tom just STRIVES FOR PERFECTION. I think there is always a place for every player to improve and that's what Tom does. He works hard to try to find THAT LITTLE AREA OF IMPROVEMENT THAT COULD RESULT IN A BETTER PLAY SOMEWHERE DOWN THE LINE."

"Martinez compares Brady's mastery of the position to that of a professor. When the Pats' offense struggled under Brady, it was due to "dead plays," Martinez said, ones that were not going to work. For his part, Brady increased his involvement in directing teammates such as tailback BenJarvus Green-Ellis where to go up to the point of the release.

"Peyton Manning is so much more animated that it looks like he's the director of the orchestra. His arms are moving and so many gyrations," Martinez said. "It's not as physically obvious with Tom, but if you see where the blitz was coming from and where they go, you know he's obviously converting plays."

ACCURACY, above all else, is what leaves onlookers amazed. Wideout Wes Welker, then rehabbing his left knee following surgery that repaired ligaments he tore in the 2009 regular-season finale, joined Brady, who had undergone similar surgery in 2008, for spring workouts. One play, in particular, left Martinez stunned. Brady sent Welker 55-60 yards downfield, had him stand with his arms up as if reaching. Brady stepped into the throw, aiming high. The ball dipped downward and landed right in Welker's hands. Martinez laughed, calling it luck.

When the ball came back, Brady repeated it again.

"A lot of people ought to be like him," Martinez said. "I can show people mechanically how he does what he does, I can give them the same mechanical skills, but he's unbelievable in being a competitor and not wanting to lose."

tl,dr

And some advice - bring more tits and less analysis going forward. kthxbyenow

Cam is just a puppy in the NFL this year. He's already blowing people's minds. No telling how good he could become if he surrounds himself with the best QB coaches in the world training him. Cam looks destined to become a champion show dog to me.

I just want the Panthers to groom his skills so he gets better than Brady, Brees, and Peyton someday ... in all aspects of his game like accuracy. Winning games is always the #1 priority though ... as it should be.

One question??

Why are you telling us all this? Seems Newton is the one you should writing your epistle to rather than us. Plus you should find out what he is already doing. Shula has done wonders for Garrard and seems to be doing well with Newton as he is well ahead of pace.

That's such a novel idea to have coaches help him to become better. Maybe you should approach the team with that suggestion. You just might be on to something. They should scour the world for QB coaches and then pick the best of them!

Well, ya gotta admit Cam does have a tendency to throw too high to his receivers. A good QB coach like Brady has will watch game film and give him the perfect advice for correcting it. Cam probably needs ongoing advise about reading defenses and calling audibles when he needs to, etc.

Hopefully, Shula is as good a QB coach as what Brady has. Brady probably has about 3 QB coaches that he works with over the course of a year. Cam could do the same thing. It doesn't hurt to have a new QB coach who's seeing things with a fresh perspective.

I suspect that the Panthers have an assistant who monitors the Panthers message boards and reads some of our posts. Sometimes the fans see things that the coaches overlook. The Panthers staff would be wise to read the message boards of the team they're playing on Sundays too.

One of the best QBs coming out of college in years should have the very best QB coaches he can get. I don't want Cam to just be an average NFL QB. He should aim to win Super Bowls, break records and become better than Brady, Peyton, Brees, etc. Cam still has plenty of stuff to learn. He should learn from the very best. Hopefully, Shula is that guy.
