Bank of America to charge $5/month for debit card use

The bank I work for (it rhymes with BunRust) processes credits before debits. However, they will send larger debits through first (usually the more important debits, such as mortgage, insurance etc) Which could cause multiple charges due to smaller items posting against a minus balance.

Also, for those of you switching to credit unions. Except for a couple of the larger credit unions, most of them use banks like Wachovia and Bank of america to do most of their back office stuff. On their own, most credit unions can't afford the infrastructure required by the government to handle credit and debit card transactions.

BofA has always been great for me and luckily I never use a debit card.

But I wonder why they need this fee.

too bad you can't do a search here. i mentioned this in the tinderbox(sigh) a few weeks ago about book value.

banks are adjusting due to new regulations from the govt. but banks have plenty in reserve right? right?

Really? What's the 5 dollars for? I already give them the right to "loan" my money that in it self should let them be happy to have my business. Without people putting money in the bank what can they loan? If 5 dollars isn't so much why does such a big corp. need 5 dollars each month? Makes me feel like I have a credit card with a annual fee so I can have credit.

Banking with an institution that has ATMs in US city I've ever been or plan to go to is worth $5 to me. Go to an out-of-network ATM once a month with a credit union and you've blown your precious margin.
