Since Jake's contract is up after this season, who will be our QB in 2010?

you mean 16 touchdowns and 17 picks counting the playoff game???? The playoff game where the coach's left him out to hang by abandoning the run after the first drive???? Yea he played a bad playoff game, but that game wasn't only his fault. He had one tip by smith, another one where smith ran his route too deep in the endzone, when he went behind the defense instead of in front of it. The playoff game where our defensive strategy was to leave Fitzgerald alone?????? that game?

What about farve??? The great qb who had 22 touchdowns and 22 picks in the regular season..... QB's who are gunslinger's they will tend to have bad games...just saying. For his career he has 116 touchdowns - 76 picks. and a completion percentage at 60 percent (59.7)...I wouldn't call that inaccurate. Also your using a season in which he was coming off of TMJ surgery which is known to cause consistency problems.

Like I said Jake is this team's QB for next season, get over it already.

Blah blah blah, excuses excuses. Fact remains that he was one of only three quarterbacks with more picks than TDs this season and that was with the best supporting cast he's ever had.

And who in the world was calling Favre a great QB this season? There's a reason why he finally retired, he turned into a complete joke. By the way, "gunslinger" is basically a word for inaccurate quarterbacks that throw balls up for grabs.

And just because he's had good seasons in the past does not mean anything now. He's a 35-year-old starting QB (3rd oldest in the league) coming off his worst season as a Panther where he was one of only three quarterbacks to throw more picks than TDs. Oh yeah and he has a rebuilt elbow like you mentioned. Oh, and like I said some posts back, there's not a single fan/analyst/player/coach outside of this organization and this fanbase that thinks he's worth a damn.

So I ask again, WHY do people think he's worth keeping?

I posted one why that game shouldn't be counted. The coaches and their play calling in that game on both sides of the ball, left him out to hang.

Jake's been called on in the past to win games through his passing. That's the whole point of being a quarterback. If you can't ask your quarterback to win games for you by putting the ball in the air, then what good is he?

I'll agree with you that the playcalling was idiotic, but that in no way excuses Jake's performance.

Kurt Warner On jake in NFLE, This is Kurt saying that Jake is a better QB then Warner.

"All I was hoping, no offense to Jake, was that he would make a few more mistakes than me so that the coaches would give me a chance. If you just looked at it in black and white, you'd probably take a guy like Jake. He is talented and a great leader and a great competitor. I just knew at that point in time that was my last chance.

Jake had the stronger arm, he moved better, could make the big throws and big plays a lot better than I could,” said Warner, whose career up until that point included a stint in the Arena Football League.

As for why I want the team to keep him, You remember last season?????? Yea the team fell apart with out him...

What some don't understand, or take for granted, is that he is this team's unquestioned leader. The Panthers fell apart and bickered among themselves last season after Delhomme went out in the third game, eventually missing the playoffs.

"You've seen the difference between last year and this year, having him and not having him," tackle Jordan Gross said. "He's definitely our leader and the whole team revolves around him. Having him in the huddle every day, it puts a lot of confidence in what we do offensively."

Gross said he understands why Delhomme doesn't get the accolades.

"He's not a flashy guy," Gross said. "He doesn't scramble and make big plays with his legs, and he's not someone you want to have the camera on. But he does the right things, and he's tough and he leads our offense. He's a guy that's not flashy, but he definitely does the job as well as anybody."

So when anyone refutes your continuous rantings with statistics, you call it excuses. The constant Jake bashings that you masquerade as posts are getting tiresome and annoying. We get it...you don't like Jake.

Now STFU and find something else negative in your life to obsess with.

The last time Kurt Warner was on a team with Jake, they were playing on a different continent in a different league in a different decade when the biggest crisis facing the country was Bill Clinton lying about a blowjob.

And I know there are plenty of current Panthers that say nice things about Jake. The ones that aren't willing to say nice things quickly get shipped out. Ask Keyshawn about that.

The only stat I've seen cited that supposedly proves Jake isn't inaccurate is that he's "accurate" on his deep balls. That says nothing about the majority of his passing game since the majority of his passes aren't deep passes. Also, using that stat to prove something conveniently ignores the fact that there's some guy down the field named Steve Smith making ridiculous adjustments to catch those balls.

No, I said he's a lifetime completion percentage right at 60 percent, this past season he had a completion percentage at 59 percent when he was throwing more deep balls then any other qb in the league.

If Jake had a better arm he would be a pretty damn good qb.

His flaws imo:

1 Throws behind WRs when if just lead off they could have scored

2 Overthrows WRs

3 Instead of throwing to the open man he will chuck it to Smith to make a play(cant always blame him for that)

4 Doesn't see check down routes(related to 3)

5 Bad pocket presence( when you see that DE come around the corner, you know Jake is going to fumble)

His positives

1. Great leader

2. Has the Smith connection

3. Has 4th qtr magic

4. Has great zip on the ball(used to anyway)

5. Usually finds someone open. I thought he was pretty dependable most of the season. So he makes decent reads.

So I think a little strengthening on that arm will serve him well. And I have an idea of maybe sitting Smith out of TC and just have Jake familiar with all of the WRs and help him spread the ball around. Maybe some more 3 WR sets in the offense will help him get a little more comfortable when he has to open up the offense say if the running game isn't working.

Thats kind of how the offense works though. Run and force the 8th man in the box, then play action Smith deep.

    • Ok--I have seen some sample items, and I would like to see something (if possible) measures on field intelligence--maybe how quickly you can grasp a playbook or absorb film session adjustments...Back when we had Morrison as team president and Hurney as GM, I offered to assess (as part of my research in education requirement at a University) emotional intelligence and learning styles of players to help coaches teach more effectively.  Morrison loved it and contacted me about it.  Hurney was not interested, and it fell through the cracks.  My pitch?  If only 50% of first-rounders become successful NFL players and that number drops significantly, can you tell me that you are effectively measuring talent?  Morrison thought it was a good point and wanted to do something that might improve long-term success rates--that would impact the cap management, etc.  Marty, according to Morrison, said he was not interested at this time and if so, he would want a football guy to do it.  (I told Morrison that I played in college and Hurney, a sports reporter at one time, did not. He told me that Hurney played as a Guard in college--who knew?) Any way, about that time, Morrison left (2017) and the idea was dropped.  I reached back out a year later or so to Marty was still not interested.  A few days later, his wife accused him of assault or something, so I dropped it.
    • Pretty sure they still do the Wonderlic they just don't publicly release the scores.
    • I just thought he was under the radar--but thanks for opening our eyes to him.  I think we should have better measures for intelligence--such as reaction time, angles, etc. Legette is raw as heck, for example, and his RAS was very high.  We used to do the Wonderlic (which was not great) but to know how effectively a player makes on field decisions would be great.
