You cant pass your way to the Super Bowl Trophy

Heard Florio interviewed as he normally is Wednesday mornings by 1090AM in San Diego. He pointed out that top passing yardage season performances by QBs dont equal Lombardis and that he would post up that fact asap:

Our corporate cousin Tom Curran of CSNNE.com recently pointed out something that quickly has become my favorite factoid of the week. The top 10 single-season passing yardage performances in NFL history came from men whose big numbers did not result in the biggest possible prize: a Super Bowl win.

Ditto for the top 20 single-season passing yardage performances.

And for the top 30.

In fact, it’s not until No. 34 on the list that the quarterback who generated big yardage won the Super Bowl — Peyton Manning in 2006, with 4,397. Next, at No. 35, Drew Brees and the Saints won the title in 2009, with Brees throwing for 4,388 yards.

Panther related because with the hysteria of Cam' production we still need to get our tandem running game going in symbiosis to get where we ultimately want to go.

I know there is much Florio hate here but he is useful as a gatherer of information.

i think the top two under appreciated stats to winning the SB is third down conversions in the 4th quarter and red zone defense.

oh and lets throw in length of drives in the 2nd half. that tells us two things. how good one offense is and how fresh the other d is.

I totally disagree, just out of the top five players you have the top passer in the Super Bowl or just at the doorstep. Even the year when the top passer missed the Super Bowl, the winning team had a passer in the top ten. What they didn't have at the top, a running back in rushing yards.

1. Lost superbowl

2. superbowl team 2nd in passing and if Brees did not have a freakish year it would have been first.

3. Lost superbowl

4. Lost superbowl

5. Lost conference championship, superbowl winning QB was 8th, superbowl winning RB not in top 10.

Like that point wasn't made when u lost the two games where Cam was high scoring...

Mike kills me with his desire to make a shallow point. We all know winning isn't based solely on high passing counts but it helps when ur QB can do their job in the passing the department so when the rest of the team gels u hopely got a Superbowl winning team.
