Frank Omiyale 1st string on Bears Roster

It only took two days of minicamp practice for the Bears to move Frank Omiyale from left guard to first-string right tackle.

Cody Balogh was bumped down the depth chart and Josh Beekman stepped in at LG. There's a long way to go, but Omiyale would seem Chicago's best option at tackle right now. Balogh has never been on a regular season roster.

No oline depth, no clear cut return man, this offseason sucks.

I hated losing Omiyale and Hangartner, but there was no way the Panthers were gonna pay those guys as much as the Bills and Bears did, even if they had plenty of cap room.

Plus, it's not like it's impossible to find O-line depth in the draft, or sign another FA or two before the season starts. Don't count out Bernardeau and Schwartz just yet either.

oh goodness wherever will we find cheap oline depth

if only there was some event in the near future where you could take younger players and add them to your team

Shame we cut all those young players from the past 2 years as well !!!

Seems everyone forgot we signed like 15 guards last offseason for about threffitty, and ended up still having excellent depth.

Hangman left, yet other wait their turn. Try and smile a little my children.

Omiyale was a draft bust for Atlanta but the Panthers had interest in him on draft day so they followed his progress and grabbed him when he became available on the market. Then they let him sit on the bench as an inactive for the entire 2007 season and let him learn. It paid off as he slowly became what they thought he was capable of. For all we know they have another guy(s) they are eyeing right now.

They are really high on Schartz. You never know.

frank omiyale was about as good as evan mathis

Come on man...even you know that's BS. If Mathis had been the guy to come in and played LT for Jordan Gross, all the Jake haters would have gotten their wish, because he would have gotten knocked out for the season.

Omiyale was good depth, but if they had resigned him for anywhere close to what the Bears paid him, everyone would be complaining. He and Hangartner moved on for the chance to start and to make more money. Neither one was going to happen here. Good for them for getting a chance. Hopefully, Schwartz and Barnideu(sp?) will improve and we can pick up someone in the draft. There's still a lot of offseason left.
