Looks like there's bad blood between Rivera and Lovie Smith

Rivera was as "fired" as John Fox was. As in, he wasn't.

Rivera's was worse.

Rivera in his years in Chicago had formed one of the best defensive teams in the entire NFL. He was let go.....scheme didn't change. They just brough in a lesser caliber coach to do the job.

Fox wasn't doing his job. Non winning seasons.

Both would have been fired. They didn't have to be fired b/c of contract situations.

Yup, Bears fans were seeing another Ditka in Rivera. And now we got him. :)

Another Ditka? I think Chico will be better than Ditka

Another HC that rode on the waveof his genius Defensive Coordinator (Buddy Ryan)? If anything, Lovie is a bizarro world Ditka without a genius Offensive Coordinator but not with the requisite talent like the 85 Bears D had

Articles from the time mention that it was probable that Rivera was going to get a HC position. Coordinators are generally one year contracts for this reason. They mention the idea that they were wanting to allow him to advance and at the same time not pay the amount it would have required to keep him from pursuing HC.

If the soap opera stuff makes this game more interesting to you, it doesn't hurt anything.
