ESPN Insider --> Could a Peppers-for-Cutler deal solve an impending Carolina problem

So what do you suggest they do? Hold a gun to Peppers head and force him to go wherever they want him to go?

Obviously, a lot of people here are completely clueless on how trades work in the real world.

No...what I saying is the Panthers are calling the shots here not Peppers.

If Peppers does not like where we would be willing to send him, then he can just stay put here in Carolina

Closer to accurate would be that unless Peppers is willing to widen his list of preferred teams to include those who are willing to give us adequate compensation or can convince his preferred teams to ante up better draft picks, he is going to be still here. Until he signs his tender he controls the negotiations. We however can turn down any offer until we get the compensation we want.

That is a key point and answers the question about why the front office isn't being more active shopping him around. He controls the shopping but we decide if we are going to do the buying.

I need to get my highwaters b/c all ESPN, FOX, NFL NEt. and all this others are just shoveling bs trying to be the first one with a legitimate story.....I think the trade will be good if we can package a few players and get one of there d-line men and a later round pick...

the panthers can't send him anywhere.

the panthers can't choose anything.

all the panthers can do is say yes or no to whatever trades peppers can find.

1. Jay Cutler is already better, and will get way better than Jake

2. Jake is a great leader and the team loves him, but It will not take long for the team to love Jay and forget about Jake. NFL stands for Not For Long.

3. I understand Cutlers frustration. He was the only thing working for that team last year, and they try to trade him away. WTF?

4. Every one needs a franchise QB. It makes things so much easier. Cutler would be unstopable behind our line and with our running game. Matt Moore is not our future. At least I hope not.

5. Agreed, but how often does a proven QB land in your lap. If they would trade we should do it. We fix the D as best we can until next year.

jakes career stats: record as starter-50-31

cmp%-59.7

115 tds 76ints

rating: 85.1

jay cutlers career stats: record as starter-9-12

cmp%-62.5

54 tds 37ints

rating: 87.1

1. above is jakes career stats versus cutlers career. cutlers is a lil better but not by much considering jake has been around alot longer.

2. why would u want to mess up the chemisty that the starting qb has with a team that just went 12-4

3. like i said before the nfl is business first. any player can be traded onany day no matter who he is.

4. any rookie qb that can step in at the middle of the season lead his team which is full of injuries to a 2-1 record is fine with me. what more do u need to see?

5. look at the saints. great offense. horrible defense. what have they done lately? nothing. DEFENSE wins championships. its been said many times on this site this teams trys to be like the steelers. which IMO is a very good thing. u dont do that by getting rid of ur best d-lineman for a qb and do the best u can on defense

Thank you for saying the same thing in different words

one of these times it will be understood.

the panthers can't negotiate anything. they aren't allowed to.

the panthers can't choose where peppers goes. they aren't allowed to.

the panthers can't go out and find a trade partner. they aren't allowed to.

The biggest reason I dont see this going down is because the Broncos arent going to make the trade unless they get someone in return that can play qb for them. They wont take Jake and Peppers because of the cap hit between the two of them. Not only that but I couldnt see the Panthers trading two of the most important players in team history in the same deal. It would be like starting from scratch. Denver is just like us. They arent going to make a trade that is below market value, that will screw them up or make them worse. Just my 2 cents.

not arguing.

just stating the panthers aren't doing anything.

they aren't allowed to. they did everything they can do. they can't do anything else until pep finds a trade partner.

not saying you are one of these people, but there are some who don't understand that the panthers aren't doing anything right now but watching and waiting to see what pep finds. that is all they are allowed to do.

see...that wasn't arguing. it was stating. if what i am saying isn't different than what you are saying there is no disagreement.
