ESPN Insider --> Could a Peppers-for-Cutler deal solve an impending Carolina problem

I dont think Denver would accept a peppers-cutler trade. They wouldnt take jake because of his salary. Tampa Bay offered there first and a third rounder for Cutler. If there were to trade him they would take the picks insted of a 30 year old DE, who has never played and OLB in a 3-4.

There are so many more options that would benifit Denver than to send him to Carolina for a 30 year old, never played OLB in his life, Peppers. Detriot, Cleveland, Jets, 49ers and Bucs would all give a better offer than we could, so I dont see him coming to Carolina.

Jake is getting there in age and has no arm strength left. Look back at the Green Bay game. I think Moore will be the starting QB in 2010.

sadly, a similar story can/will be told about all potential Peppers trades

I really dont see how the hell our FO is doing nothing in regards to this. Like people on here say, Pep wants to go to 3-4 (Denver) and Cutler wants out, we need a new young QB (Cutler) This to me is like a gift from above if they did that. We would have a good QB great running game, and our passing game would be even better.

First of all, you and I have no idea what the FO is doing right now, so don't assume that they're not looking into all their options just because they're not broadcasting it to anybody who will listen.

Secondly, until Peppers signs that tender, it's up to him and his agent to find a trading partner, not the Panthers.

Third...no trade is gonna happen unless all parties agree to it. I don't know where people are getting this idea that the Panthers can just trade with any team they want whether that team, or the players involved, like it or not.

jake is gettin old, and yes we do need to start thinking about the future. and yes cutler is a very talented QB that has alot of years left ahead of him, whether those years are good or bad remains to be seen. would i wana trade peppers for cutler? NO.

1. IMO jay cutler is not that much better than jake

2. jake is a great leader for the team and has great chemistry with everyone. despite what the media and fans say. the coaching staff, the FO and the team stands behind him.

3. jake has never had any off the field problems. cutler has proved this offseason that he realy needs to mature. the nfl is a business.

4. IMO we do not need a franchise superstar type QB. we are a run first team. our running backs are young and our o-line will be together for a while. we need a game manager type QB. and IMO i think matt moore can do that.

5. were a 12-4 team. our biggest weakness is the d-line. it would be a huge mistake to trade away our best d-lineman and not get the compensation to replace him and fix other problems on the line.

1. Jay Cutler is already better, and will get way better than Jake

2. Jake is a great leader and the team loves him, but It will not take long for the team to love Jay and forget about Jake. NFL stands for Not For Long.

3. I understand Cutlers frustration. He was the only thing working for that team last year, and they try to trade him away. WTF?

4. Every one needs a franchise QB. It makes things so much easier. Cutler would be unstopable behind our line and with our running game. Matt Moore is not our future. At least I hope not.

5. Agreed, but how often does a proven QB land in your lap. If they would trade we should do it. We fix the D as best we can until next year.

When the Cutler situation first started I was one of the ones who automaticly jumped up and down saying the Panthers have to go after this guy. Even if they don't intend to include Peppers in a trade for Cutler they should and are looking into it as any team would. I have been a fan of Delhomme's for years now but sometimes you have to be able to know when a player is no longer as effective as they once where and thats my feeling with Jake.

With that said I don't want the Panthers to trade for Cutler. I don't trust Delhomme anymore. I think Cutler is a better QB right now. And I think that QB is just as much a glaring need as the any needs on the defense. But the problem is that I don't think Cutler would mesh with this team. He is the WR version of a QB. He wants to throw the ball and throw often. Brining him here would be like brining TO here. That doesn't mean Cutler is a bad person or bad QB, its just who he is and to be honest I think Buffalo is the perfect landing spot for Cutler.

Now, with that said, I also still believe that the team needs to make an upgrade at starting QB but there are really no options in this years draft or FA. I do belive the team could be in just as good of shape offensively if they cut Delhomme and his massive cap hit and allowed Moore to start in 09. Then they would know for sure if they needed to sign Moore long term or find another solution elsewhere. But thats really another topic all together.

whiny boy first started pining for a trade when he heard his QB coach was going to be getting the axe. his agent was begging for a trade well before the cassell/cutler trade thought came along.

broncos saw they had a malcontent who didn't want to work with the incoming staff and decided to go after a QB that the HC was familiar with who would be glad to be there and given a chance to start.

cutler dug his own grave there. no pity for him and no desire for him to be here. he is going to never be a franchise QB because everywhere he goes he is going to want to be somewhere else in a couple years.

he will be a talented journeyman QB who will be making his crazy agent tons of money from every new contract with every team he joins and lots of attention from other players.

talent isn't everything.

Cutler is Jeff George

You know, I wouldn't say that's a sure thing, but there is enough evidence that he could be the next Jeff George, that it would be a big gamble to trade away what Denver is gonna want for him.

BTW, I don't understand why people assume that Peppers would be willing to play in Denver in the first place...especially with a brand new unproven HC and a big question mark at QB. Not to mention the fact that he would instantly be "the man" on that defense. He would be under just as much, if not more, scrutiny than he would be if he stayed here.

For what its worth, NFL Total Access (all former players) had a lot of good things to say about both Cutler and Peppers.

Peppers, keeps himself in shape, he could play for Denver another 6 years at least, look at Strahan.

Cutler would give the Panthers a franchise QB, he's young, he's talented, and I'll add that his teammates on offense had really good things to say about him, unsolicited.

You never heard questionable things about Cutler under Shanahan. I heard a few Denver fans on Sirus NFL Radio, wanting Josh Daniels out of there because of the handling of this...but, they are fans just like we are.

Granted Peppers has to approve the trade.

I believe the bottom-line is, Fox will not change. Delhomme is the QB until Fox is no longer here and it does not matter what Delhomme does. I like Jake Delhomme, he is a decent person, but, in my heart and from what I see at games and post game replays, he's not the same as he was in that 2003 season and his skills are degrading. We can talk about 'one year' for post Tommy John and all that. I'm not alone in that observation. I remember Rod Woodson on NFL Total Access picking the Cardinals in an upset against us. When he was asked why, he said, 'Carolina's QB'.

Everyone has opinions.

I believe everyone here wants Jake to do well. Sometimes, it is just not in the cards.

I can remember very few times when Delhomme hit his receivers in stride, and I swear, sometimes, I feel like his throws are going to get Smith killed. Same with Muhammed.

My sharing of thoughts for what it is worth. I know a lot of folks on here are pretty polarized in their views, and that's ok, its a forum, not a front office.

Who cares what Peppers wants !

Go to Denver or stay here in Carolina. How bad do you want to play in that 3-4 defense?

That was the whole reason why he said he wanted to go in the first place. I have no interest, nor should the FO care about Peppers's list of teams

So what do you suggest they do? Hold a gun to Peppers head and force him to go wherever they want him to go?

Obviously, a lot of people here are completely clueless on how trades work in the real world.

Yeah, most of those same people are pretty clueless about football in general. :D
